I have. Mobile: some users' sensitive data has been stolen, here's what to do!

In recent days, the virtual operator of Vodafone, I have. Mobile, had communicated that it had initiated investigations, with the support of the competent investigative authorities, regarding the alleged theft of sensitive data of its users reported on December 28 2020. After a week of silence, finally the mobile phone service offered by Vodafone Enabler has decided to break the delay, confirming the news that many subscribers feared, some personal information (even if only of a part of the users) and technical data of the SIM cards in their name have been stolen. Below is the complete press release from the well-known virtual operator:

I have. Mobile, as officially declared last December 28, has launched investigations in collaboration with the investigative authorities on alleged theft of data from its mobile phone customers. From the further checks carried out, which are still in progress, it emerges that some data of part of the customer base have been illegally stolen with reference only to the personal and technical data of the SIM. The company announces that no data relating to traffic (text messages, phone calls, web activities, etc.), nor banking data or data relating to any payment system of its customers have been stolen in any way.

I have. Mobile denounces this illegal activity to the detriment of its customers and announces that it has already filed a complaint with the investigating authority and informed the Privacy Guarantor, with whom it is working in close contact. Unfortunately I also have. Mobile, like numerous other companies, has been the victim of cyber attacks that escalated and accelerated during the pandemic. In these hours we are proceeding to inform only the customers I have. Mobile involved, and we have already activated additional and new levels of security to protect customers from potential threats. Further actions to protect the stolen data are being implemented and will be communicated to customers.

If customers still want to replace their SIM, they can request its replacement free of charge at authorized points of sale. We are witnessing various speculative phenomena on social networks and therefore we invite customers to check directly with the official ho channels. Mobile (website, app, call center) any information and any need for support.

Furthermore, according to what emerged from the FAQ on the official website, some data of part of the customer base would have been illegally stolen, with reference only to personal data (name, surname, telephone number, social security number, email, date and place of birth, nationality and address) and SIM technicians. In the event that your data has been stolen, you will receive a notification on your account. At the moment it would seem that no traffic data has been stolen in any way (phone calls, SMS, web activity, etc.) nor bank details or data relating to any payment system of its customers. Finally, we point out that, in order to protect its users, it will be possible to request a SIM change for free, bringing with you the current phone card and a valid identity document.
