The German development house Daedalic Entertainment recently announced the next title that will be released on PC and consoles, that is Lord of the Rings: Gollum. It will be a game action adventure, which will follow the stories told by the hugely popular JRR Tolkien, and will focus above all on the enigmatic figure of Gollum. Based on the license of the literary work, and not on the cinematographic one, the title will be placed chronologically before the events that take shape in the novels, and also before the films of the The Lord of the Rings.
And precisely with regard to the plot and the timeline, in an interview conducted by The Hollywood Reporter, the CEO of Daedalic Entertainment himself added some small details on the chronological location of this promising title. “In the video game we are based on the story that we all know from the book, but what we will include in it is what happens to Gollum before he appears in the literary work. We will then tell his personal story prior to the apparition with which he is introduced in the books, ”he declares Carsten Fichtelmann.
Furthermore, again from what Fichtelmann explains in the short interview for the magazine, it would seem that the player will be able to take on the role of Gollum and face the numerous adventures experiencing the known "bipolarity" that so distinguishes him, with two voices that speak continuously in the creature's head and that will influence the user in his game choices. Fichtelmann defines them as a continuous clash between “the Smeagol decisions and the Gollum decisions”, a clash that will probably affect the alternation of the plot - and who knows, maybe even the ending.
Remember that Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be produced in collaboration with Middle-earth Enterprises, while for what concerns its release date, it would seem to be currently scheduled for 2021, perhaps in conjunction with the preview of the television series dedicated to the saga now in production as an Amazon exclusive.
