    The 2021 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January will be an entirely digital event, given the impediment of gatherings and the continuing concerns related to the coronavirus in the United States

    While CES is not a gaming-centric event, it is nevertheless one of the largest technology showcases in the world. Given the poor U.S. response to the pandemic, in which confirmed cases and deaths continue to rise, that the event has been canceled and repurposed in this new guise just six months later is a sign that doesn't bode well for the country. year to come.



    Here's a statement released by the Consumer Technology Association, aka CES organizers, on Tuesday:

    For over 50 years, CES has been the global stage for innovation. And CES 2021 will continue to be a platform to launch products, interact with global brands and define the future of the tech industry.

    With growing global health concerns over the spread of COVID-19, it is not possible to safely summon tens of thousands of people to Las Vegas in early January 2021 to meet and do business in person.

    A CES 2021 will be fully digital and will enable the entire tech community to securely share ideas and showcase the products that will shape our future. Technology helped us work, learn and connect during the coronavirus pandemic and presented real solutions to help solve complex global challenges.

    We look forward to welcoming the global tech industry, from international brands to budding start-ups, to kick off the year with the world's most influential digital tech event.
