Final Fantasy XVI will be launched exclusively for PlayStation 5, but when the game was revealed a few months ago, it wasn't clear whether it would be a time exclusive or not. In fact, the first presentation trailer for the title mentioned a simultaneous launch on PC, although Square Enix then returned to the issue, stating that the game would be a PlayStation 5 exclusive and that there was no information on other platforms it could have released on.
Today, some light seems to have been shed on the matter. In a trailer released recently by PlayStation Brazil showing various third-party PS5 console exclusives, Final Fantasy XVI also appears. At the bottom of the screen, towards the end of the video, it is stated that the game will be exclusive to PS5 “For a limited time“, Suggesting that the title could arrive later on other platforms as well. In fact, the movie reports that the game is PS5 exclusive, but only temporal. The sentence that appears in the short trailer is the following: "Final Fantasy 16 will not be available on other platforms for a limited period of time after launch on PS5". This does not give us precise information, but specifies that the game could arrive on other platforms, especially on PC. The industry analyst Piers Harding-Rolls had stated not long after Final Fantasy XVI's announcement that the game would be a PS5 exclusive only for six months after launch, and that the end of exclusivity period would end another six months later.
Final Fantasy XVI does not yet have an official release date, but several rumors have suggested it could be launched sooner than most people think: the manufacturer Naoki Yoshida has in fact claimed that Square Enix will not talk about the game until it feels ready to do so, although it has previously also promised "various announcements" for the game in 2021.
