How to record PC screen in Windows 11

Surely it has happened to you that you need to record your computer screen, for example to show a procedure to another person. But how do you record the screen of a PC with Windows 11? Fortunately, unlike a few years ago, there are integrated tools fit for purpose, as well as good and well-known third-party software that also offers a few more options.

How to record screen with Xbox Game Bar

Windows 11 relies on Xbox game bar, an application usually dedicated to the gaming sector, to record the screen. You can use the keyboard shortcut to start it Windows+G, or search for it directly from the application bar. Once launched, Xbox Game Bar will appear at the top of the screen: at this point click on the "Camera" icon to open the Capture window.

In the window Acquire you can select screen recording option. However, before doing so you need to activate (or deactivate) the microphone. If you want to talk while recording your screen, make sure the Microphone icon is not crossed out with a line.

When you're ready to record, you can click the button “Register”, which has the shape of a filled circle. At this point, the recording will begin. When you want to finish, click on the "Stop" button, which replaces the previous "Record" with a filled square.

To find the recording, click "View My Captures" at the bottom of the Captures window.

How to record screen with Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint is not a software integrated directly into Windows 11, but is part of the Office suite. To record your screen, first launch the program, click on the “Insert” tab and select “Screen recording” by the Media group.

PowerPoint will disappear and a small bar will appear at the top of the screen. To the right of the menu bar, it is possible choose whether to record audio and/or the cursor.

Next, it is necessary select the screen area you want to register. By default, the cursor changes to a cross when the menu bar is displayed, so click and drag the mouse to select the area you want to record, which will be outlined by a red dotted line.

To start recording, all you have to do is click on the option "Register" in the menu bar.

The screen will start recording. You can also pause the recording by clicking on the "Pause" option, and then resume it by clicking on "Play", which appears only if you pause the screen. Alternatively, if the recording is finished click on "Stop".

When the recording is complete, it will appear in the current PowerPoint slide. To download it, right-click on it and select “Save Media As” give the menu answer.

Capture the screen with a third-party software
