Damien Chazelle, director of Whiplash (winner of 3 Academy Awards including Best Supporting Actor a JK Simmon), and of La La Land (winner of 6 Academy Awards including Best Director), is working on a new film, that is Babel. The young filmmaker's new project will tell about the historical period that saw cinema embrace sound at the end of the 20s. During the film we will see characters that really existed alternate with others created specifically for the film in question.
Emma Stone, who won the Academy Award for Best Leading Actress for her performance in La La Land, seems ready to return to work with Chazelle. The actress should fill the role of the diva Clara Bow, a great icon and sex symbol of the age of jazz and cinema. At his side, in the role of male lead, he is in talks Brad Pitt. The actor is expected to play a fictional role inspired by the figure of John Gilbert, a silent film star who, however, failed to confirm himself with the advent of sound.
Paramount acquired the rights to the film and set aside a budget of around 100 million. The feature film will be produced by Tobey Maguire, Marc Platt, Olivia Hamilton and Matthew Plouffe, while executive producers will be Adam Siegel and Helen Estabrook. The release of Babylon, unless postponed, is scheduled for Christmas 2021.
