Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two: "In ten years we will reach absolute photorealism"

    Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two:

Speaking at the UBS Global TMT Virtual Conference, the CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, expressed his considerations on the near future of the videogame industry, in particular on the goals it can achieve in the medium-long term. Between passages, Zelnick claimed that in about ten years, video games will be able to count on absolute photorealism as for the graphics sector .. In general, according to the CEO of Take-Two, the technological advances that will be achieved by the media in the next 30-40 years will make things even more exciting for gamers.

I imagine the game development activities in Take-Two will be very different in ten years from what they are today. Just as those of today appear very different when compared to those of ten years ago, when for example the market for mobile games had not yet exploded, and for consumers there were not so many continuous expenses to continue playing.

I can't say exactly what's going to happen, but I think what we will see is technology that will allow our best creatives to do things they have never been able to do before, such as games whose graphics are exactly the same as reality.

Zelnick also added, particularly on the subject of photorealism:

Some of the things we do now look a lot like live-action productions, but they are still animations. In ten years we will have the opportunity to draw 'things' on the screen that will seem absolutely real, but always done by a computer.

All of this leads me to believe that there will be huge changes within our work, many of which we cannot yet predict. There will be major business growth and many new opportunities to explore both in terms of making creative work, and on the corporate side, to leverage those skills and put them into practice.

Regarding the absolute photorealism to be achieved in video games, RockStar Games it is certainly one of the software houses that has come closest to drawing reality on the screen with Red Dead Redemption 2. A screenshot taken within the title open-world with a western setting, in fact, was recently exchanged for a real photo from a television station. Speaking of westerns, if you are interested in the genre, we have recently reviewed the new effort by Honig Studio, El Hijo: A Wild West Tale. To take a look at all the upcoming titles (so maybe you can take the opportunity to get an idea of the quality levels reached by the current graphics engines), we invite you to read our special dedicated to games to be released in December. Finally, feast your eyes on this new and exciting trailer, reported at the bottom of the news, that Sony dedicated to the titles that will delight the owners of PlayStation 5 in the next future. Good vision!
