As reported recently by the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, Episode IX of Star Wars may not represent the real ending of the saga. While giving a conclusion to the long story that has seen, in the course of nine feature films, the protagonists of the family members Skywalker, the film would leave several questions open, questions that among other things - again according to the presindentess - could find light in new future films.
Such statements, regarding the narrative function and the repercussions of the events that will be shown in Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, were delivered by Kennedy during the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago. Also on this occasion, the woman reported that after a hiatus (and perhaps even a departure) from the main series, Lucasfilm is actually intent on continuing the franchise by drawing on other sources.
During a recent interview with Josh Horowitz for MTV, Kathleen Kennedy it also reconfirmed a similar strategy; and indeed, according to what was mentioned to the journalist, the future of the beloved Star Wars could be oriented towards the well-known series Knights of the Old Republic, which has already given birth to a series of comics and some video games.

Obviously, before reaching hasty conclusions, it is good to point out that the president has in no way confirmed that after Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker the next film products will necessarily be inspired by Knights of the Old Republic.
This is undoubtedly a possibility that is being seriously evaluated, at Lucasfilm, with a whole series of concepts being discussed with Rian Johnson (director of The Last Jedi), DB Weiss e David Benioff (both Game of Thrones showrunners); but it is clearly very premature to already think about what will happen post-final, when the adventures of the Jedi most famous in history have not yet found the finale on the big screen.
