Many casual gamers are not familiar with the structure of development houses, or the issue of exclusives, and that is why Sony has decided to identify all of its gaming products through a new brand. Entitled PlayStation Studios, this logo will be used from now on to identify all the products released by the Japanese publisher. In the presentation video, in fact, we can see characters from the franchises of Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, The Last fo Us, God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn e Little Big Planet. Eric Lempel, senior vice president and chief of global marketing for Sony Interactive Entertainment, then spoke to the gameindustry.biz site to explain this curious and interesting initiative.
We are really excited about this announcement. In recent years - and even in the last decade - the strength of the games that come out of our studios has been the strongest ever. We therefore thought about how to combine these fantastic titles within one great brand, and our aim with it is to make the consumer understand that they are about to approach a robust, innovative product with the deep experience that you expect from a PlayStation video game. The animation you saw is the one that will be there every time you start one of our games, but the brand is inserted in many other different places. We have created shorter or longer animations for trailers and commercials, and you will even find them in any other creative "asset" such as packs and discs. We think it's a good way to get the player to expect quality games made by us on the inside. We will include this brand not only on our existing franchises, but also for the IPs that we have yet to explore with you.
According to what was communicated, you play as The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima and the PC version of Horizon: Zero Dawn, they will not have this mark yet, as it was not prepared in time for their launch. In any case, we can wait for it for the other PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC releases that Sony plans to launch in the future, both for first party studios - such as N, Insomniac Games o Santa Monica Studios - and as regards the third-party software houses that have worked closely with the Japanese company.
If our people manage the production of a game and it is worked by an external studio, it will eventually come out within this brand anyway. This doesn't mean that we own the developer directly, just that we curated that particular title as a first-party. In many cases we do not directly own the creators of our products.
This announcement really bodes well for the future of PlayStation and Sony, demonstrating their great commitment not only to fans, but also to casual gamers. While waiting to find out what the PlayStation Studios brand will bring, we recommend that you continue to follow us so as not to miss any news about it.
