Through the pages of the official PlayStation blog, Sony has published the first official details relating to PlayStation VR 2, the new generation of Virtual reality coming up PlayStation 5.
To speak is Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform planning and management:
Today I am delighted to share that our next generation VR system is coming to PlayStation 5, enabling the best entertainment experience with noticeable leaps in performance and interactivity. Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headsets. There is still a lot of work to be done for our new VR system, so this won't launch in 2021. But we wanted to deliver this first update to our fans, as the development community has started working on creating new worlds to allow you to explore them in Virtual Reality.
Nishino pointed out that Sony has capitalized on the achievements of the launch of the first PlayStation VR system on the PlayStation 4, ensuring that next-generation VR will offer better resolution and a wider field of view. Furthermore, particular attention will be paid to the quality of the in-game input, in order to minimize input lag, the phenomenon whereby a command given by a player is executed late in a game. Finally, the vice president wanted to thank all PlayStation VR owners for their continued support:
We want to thank all PS VR players for their continued support - with games coming like After The Fall, Sniper Elite VR and Humanity, there's a lot more coming to PS VR, on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. With PlayStation VR and the next generation VR system we are building, our commitment to VR as another way to experience games is stronger than ever. We can't wait to share more details in the future!
PlayStation VR, originally known by the codename of Project Morpheus, is in virtual reality viewer developed by Sony and dedicated exclusively to the PlayStation 4 console (later made also compatible with PS5). The viewer was launched in October of 2016 simultaneously worldwide. To date, PlayStation VR is estimated to have sold approx 5 million units.
Before saying goodbye, we remind you that at sunset last October Sony explained the procedure for request the PS VR adapter for free for use with PlayStation 5. This PlayStation VR 2 is just one of the announcements that Sony has released in the last few hours. The Play at Home program is ready to return, giving players the chance to play for free Ratchet & Clank on PlayStation 4 (and that's just to start!). Finally, in the last few hours Jim Ryan, president of SIE, announced Sony's willingness to bring more PlayStation exclusives to PC.
