Today Sony has updated the FAQ section related to its new next-gen console, PlayStation 5, trying in this way to answer all the doubts and questions that have been raised about the car in recent days. All possible themes were then dealt with, from the characteristics of the DualSense wireless controller system functionality, software features and more. In the FAQ section, Sony also specifies that the list of frequently asked questions is constantly updated and new information will be published over the next few days. The Japanese giant encourages you to send any request for information.
Among the information published, Sony remembers for example the official release date for each country: November 12 in North America and the UK, November 19 in Europe. It is specified that the only difference between the PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition lies in the presence (or not) of the Blu-ray Disc ULtra HD player. It is remembered that more than 99% of the 4.000 games currently available for PS4 will be backwards compatible on PlayStation 5 and that the version of the new console with player will be able to read the contents of the games on Blu-ray Disc for PS4.
Both models can be positioned both horizontally and vertically (perhaps the doubt had arisen to someone about the "bulge" caused by the presence of the player in that specific version of PS5). And again, Sony specifies that at the time of launch the consoles will not be available in other colors other than white. The word "design":" No other colors or designs will be available for PS5 console models at launch. " Will they have foreseen different shapes, not yet revealed, for the PS5 side panels? Among other information the contents of the package are listed, where it is finally specified, in an official way, that together with the PS5 console will be included a HDMI 2.1 cable, compatible with technology Ultra High Speed. This means that PlayStation 5 can be used on 4K resolution televisions at 120Hz.
PlayStation 5: on SSD and connections
PlayStation 5 will boast on the front a USB Type-C port (USB Super-Speed 10 Gbps), a USB Type-A (Hi-Speed USB) port dedicated to the DualSense wireless controller. On the back, however, there are two USB Type-A ports (USB Super-Speed 10 Gbps). Useful for connecting a USB drive for extended storage memory and for using the HD Camera. The characteristics relating to Ethernet and Wi-Fi networks have also been specified: Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T) Wi-Fi: IEEE 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac / ax.
Sony has specified that the PlayStation 5 will not support an external “Power Brick” drive, being designed with an internal power supply. Both PS5 models will come with a free pre-installed game, the now famous Astro's Playroom; it is a colorful platform artfully created to immediately give an idea of the potential of the DualSense haptic feedback.
The ultra-high-speed SSD and custom I / O system, integrated by Sony into the PS5, have been developed in order to remove some gaming barriers, especially the loading screens. Developers will then be able to stream resources into PS5 games at lightning-fast speeds, for seamless gaming experiences and virtually instant journeys to the virtual worlds that await us on next-gen. The PS5 SSD has a read (raw) bandwidth of 5,5GB / s thanks to the use of an advanced and highly customized design. In addition, the integrated I / O system includes a custom decompressor. Further technical details have already been explained by Sony in the following video:
CPU, GPU and installation methods
PlayStation 5 games, such as PS4 games, boast a feature called "Installation Preferences", which will give players the ability to choose which part of the game to install first (such as story mode to play offline or multiplayer mode). Developers will also be able to offer the possibility to choose which content to download and which, instead, not to install at all, to save valuable space on the SSD. Sony also says that downloading and installing game updates should work faster, as the data size of updates and patches will be managed more effectively. Through the use of the PlayStation App on mobile devices (Android and iOS), users will be able to remotely manage the memory of the console in case of lack of space, choosing the contents to download and those to be paused.
You will not be able to play or store PS5 games from a USB drive. The games must be present on the internal SSD of the system. Sony says it is considering allowing PS5 games to be stored (but not played) on a USB drive via a future update. You will still be able to store and play PS4 titles from a compatible USB drive connected to the PS5 console. The console boasts an expansion port that will allow, in the future, to add M.2 SSD storage to be used to install and play PlayStation 5 games. M.2 SSD upgrade functionality will be available on PS5 after launch. , via a system software update. From the day of the PS5 debut, however, it will be possible to connect a compatible USB drive and use it to store and play games in the PS4 version, which unlike the PS5 titles (as mentioned), will not require installation on the PS5 internal SSD to work.
Sony says all PlayStation 5 games will leverage Tempest 3D AudioTech technology, a PS5 custom engine for 3D audio for high-quality audio performance, capable of delivering a much deeper sense of involvement than ever before. For example, it will be possible to distinctly hear an arrow touching the player's head or hear the sound of footsteps coming from another room to detect the position of the enemy. The Japanese giant also declares that every PS5 game will take advantage of 3D audio and recommends using the Pulse 3D wireless headphones with microphone for a perfect experience. Virtual surround sound from the TV speaker will not be available on launch day for the PS5 console, but an update is planned for this feature in the future.
PlayStation 5 boasts a processor x86-64-AMD Ryzen ™ "Zen 2", 8 Cores / 16 Threads, with Variable frequency, up to 3,5 GHz. As for the GPU, the Graphics engine is based on AMD Radeon RDNA 2, Ray Tracing Acceleration, Variable frequency, up to 2,23 GHz (10.3 TFLOPS). The System Memory is equal to 16GB (GDDR6), 448GB / s of bandwidth.
Regarding the PlayStation 5 noise, Sony states:
Our goal was to make the PS5 console quieter than the PS4 console. This is due to changes in power delivery and cooling systems, as well as custom design efforts, including a custom heatsink and liquid metal-based thermal interface material.
PlayStation 5 boasts a rest mode, with the light turning orange. The system can be set to vegan perform specified actions, such as downloading game update files and charging the DualSense wireless controller.

PS5 is capable of displaying resolutions up to 2160p (4K UHD) when connected to a 4K display. The latest generation haptic feedback replaces traditional vibration functions with two actuators, offering a more immersive suite of powerful physical sensations. Sony is confident that game developers will find many interesting and useful ways to take advantage of the unique haptic features of the DualSense wireless controller, from the deepest immersion of the players to the communication of various game states and much more. The effects and vibration functions of the DualSense can be deactivated if necessary.
Regarding the differences in the intensity of the haptic feedback versus the vibrations of the DualShock 4, Sony states:
In the case of traditional vibration technology, two small motors spin to create a vibration or tremor sensation that can increase engagement.
The new generation haptic technology of the DualSense wireless controller uses two actuators instead of motors and results are faster, more precise and much more tactile. These haptic effects can produce a much wider range of physical sensations, from light pulses located in a specific part of the controller, to stronger physical effects.
When playing a PS4 title on the PS5 console, the haptic effects of the DualSense wireless controller simulate the vibration effects of the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller. Gamers who prefer to experience the original vibration effects of a PS4 title can use a DUALSHOCK wireless controller. 4 to play PS4 games on the PS5 console.
