Recently N, VP of Naughty Dog, spoke about it PlayStation 5 and its potential, explaining that developers will surely be helped by what the next generation Sony console has to offer. The characteristics of the platform will in fact open new possibilities to Naughty Dog, which will now be able to count on the high speed of the system to minimize uploads without resorting, as it used to, to particular more complex techniques. These are the words of Druckmann:
At the end of a console generation, you always feel constraints. You always feel like you're pushing against a bunch of walls finding the little cracks where you can take it a little further, whether it's memory or CPU. When starting a new generation, it's a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you have to build new technology for new hardware, and this can be an uphill battle. On the other hand, you suddenly feel this freedom of 'Oh my God, we can breathe again!' 'We are able to break out of these constraints.' And one of the things we get excited about is the solid state hard drive and the significance of nearly continuous loading.
We do so much work on our part that once you start the adventure you never see a loading screen. And there's so much behind the scenes work on how we design the levels, how we cut them, and it's all invisible to the player; you never see any of that work. But now, knowing we'll be able to load everything faster, designers no longer have to be so constrained by the way things are arranged. So I'm thrilled to see the doors open for us.
PlayStation 5 will therefore allow the company, as well as other developers, to get out of annoying constraints and thus create better gaming experiences. In any case, you are not aware at the time of the next step that N will want to undertake later on The Last of Us Part II, even if in recent times there has been talk of a possible new fantasy IP.
