Despite PlayStation 5 having made its debut in the market just under a month, Sony's next-gen console features a respectable pool of titles, especially when compared with the next-generation games available for Xbox Series X / S. In addition to the presence of a SSD traveling at a transfer rate of 5,5 GB / s uncompressed (which becomes 8-9 GB / s when using standard compression techniques) et al Tempest Engine, Playstation 5 features a completely revolutionized controller compared to its predecessor.
As you well know, the Dualense does not differ from the DualShock 4 only from an aesthetic point of view (presenting a bi-color look), but can count on features that dramatically increase the player's immersion. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the new PlayStation 5 pad are able to literally catapult users into the video game, revolutionizing the very concept of gameplay. Although the next-gen console of the Japanese giant has made its debut recently, there are already several titles that fully support the new features of DualSense, both first party and third party, allowing players to try, pad in hand, an impressive in-game experience; let's discover them together.
Astro's Playroom
As you well know, Astro's Playroom it's a title designed to show off the features of the new DualSense. Adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, built-in speaker, microphone, Touchpad, gyroscope and accelerometer were exploited by ASOBI team in a way to say the least astonishing. The pad not only manages to make the user perceive the noise of the individual steps of the cute little robot, or the contact with materials of different types, but to transmit a further sense of immersion thanks to the skilful use of the speaker present in the pad, managing to reproduce perfectly the various climatic / environmental conditions. Everything is further enhanced by the full support for adaptive triggers, which allow the player to feel a different sensation depending on the object with which we are interacting.
Borderlands 3
The excellent action RPG-first person shooter developed by Gearbox Software, although it was released last year, it has recently received several updates that have ensured compatibility with many of the features introduced in the new Dualense by Sony. Borderlands 3 not only makes the most of i adaptive triggers of the pad, allowing players to feel more tension when pressing the R2 button, but it also features a chromatic variation of the LEDs, indicating the type of damage dealt by the selected weapon.
Bugsnax
Although we are faced with a rather bizarre videogame project created by an independent development team (Young horses), and therefore produced with fairly limited economic resources, Bugsnax manages to make wise use of the features of the Dualense. Just as previously analyzed with Astro's Playroom, the haptic feedback of the PlayStation 5 pad also in this case manages to reproduce in a very detailed way the small steps of the strange creatures and make the user perceive the various surfaces traveled in our bizarre adventure.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Although the latest effort of Treyarch is also available on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and PC, on Sony's next-gen console the first-person shooter has absolutely an edge. The best performance of the game is not due to a better graphic rendering or a higher frame rate than the rival of the Redmond house, but to a clever support of the new DualSense, which manages to transmit to the player not only the heaviness of the guns, by pressing L2 (key dedicated to the viewfinder), but to simulate perfectly the behavior of an automatic weapon, whenever we interact with the R2 trigger. Everything is further enhanced by the haptic feedback of the controller, managing to emphasize the hits scored and the game sequences.
Demon's Souls
Demon's Souls for PS5 fails to make good use of DualSense, resulting somewhat circumscribed and limited. In addition to taking advantage of the haptic feedback to show the player the direction of the roll dodge, the support for the new pad ends here. Unlike other titles that we will analyze later in this special, adaptive triggers fail to emphasize the hits scored by sidearms, an element that not only would have further amplified the gaming experience, but would have been particularly appreciated by soulslike fans.
Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition
Unlike Demon's Souls Remake, which couldn't bring back that sense of fulfillment once it landed the hits, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition he succeeds perfectly, making Capcom's hack and slash gameplay even more adrenaline-pumping than the version released in 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The DualSense manages to transmit to the player, pad in hand, a very interesting feedback when going to use the skills of Black, Dante Alighieri, V e Vergil.
DiRT 5 and WRC 9
As expected, racing games seem to be "designed" to take advantage of the revolutionary features of the Dualense by Sony, making the sequences even more engaging and rewarding. And this is precisely the result obtained by DiRT 5 e WRC 9, which not only manage to convey the feeling of being really on the track thanks to the variable voltage transmitted by the L2 and R2 keys during acceleration and braking, but the clever use of haptic feedback and the speaker integrated into the pad literally catapult the player into the cockpit of their car.
FIFA 21
Unlike the previously analyzed titles, FIFA 21 on PlayStation 5 aims to exploit the functionality of the new controller by focusing everything on the sense of player fatigue on the green rectangle, thanks to variable resistance of adaptive triggers. In addition, the haptic feedback of DualSense makes the gaming experience even more immersive, allowing players to feel the impact of shots, passes, holds, kicks and tackles.
Fortnite
Even Fortnite only partially manages to support the new features of the Dualense. Unlike Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which manages to make a wise use of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, the famous battle royale by Epic Games it is limited only to this last element, but managing to obtain a good result overall. Although the resistance of the R2 button is similar for all the firearms available in the game, the final effect is really satisfying, allowing the player to perceive even when the weapon is unloaded.
Godfall
Another Sony exclusive, also available on PC, which manages to fully exploit the features introduced with the Dualense di PS5 is the action RPG developed by Counterplay Games. The haptic feedback lets you feel the direction of the deadly blows coming from the formidable warriors, while i adaptive triggers they were used by the Californian software house to transmit to the player the residual energy of our brave Valorian knight.
Immortals Fenyx Rising
Released last December 3 on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S PC, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia, the new open world adventure developed by Ubisoft and set in ancient Greece supports Sony's next-gen console haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the new Dualense, although this was implemented in a rather sketchy manner. THE trigger they give back to the player a minimum tension when the bow is drawn, and then result in a slight vibration when the arrows are shot.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Unfortunately, just like Demon's Souls Remake, too Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales fails to make good use of the features of the new PlayStation 5 controller. The final result is rather undecided, since the shooting of the cobwebs is barely mentioned, as well as the response of the DualSense to the use of the Venom attacks of the young Miles. We would have expected something more from the new adventure created by Insomniac Games, but the cross-gen nature of the game will most likely have influenced development.
NBA 2K21
Another sports title that makes good use of the adaptive triggers of the new PS5 pad is definitely NBA 2K21. The latest effort of Visual concepts and published by 2K Sports takes advantage of the DualSense highlighting the fatigue of the basketball players during the match, thanks to a variable resistance of the triggers. The latter will tend to become less rigid in proportion to the depletion of an athlete's energy.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Along the lines of Astor's Playroom, too Sumo Digital has managed to take advantage of the unprecedented features of the new Sony controller. Sackboy not only manages to transmit, pad in hand, the noise of his steps (also highlighting the different surface on which we find ourselves) thanks to the haptic feedback, but the adaptive triggers allow to perceive a different resistance every time we interact with the various elements. present on the screen. There is no lack of support for the DualSense speaker, which is able to further amplify the gaming experience and convey to the user the cheerful atmosphere of the nice platform of the British software house.
The Pathless
Also The Pathless, latest effort by Giant Squid (creators of the much appreciated ABZU), takes advantage of the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the PlayStation 5's DualSense with little conviction. Unlike Astro's Playroom, in which the triggers were able to greatly emphasize the resistance placed by the bow before shooting the arrow, here the final result is very bland and absolutely in line with the development team's budget, given that we are in front of it. still to an indie.
Watch Dogs: Legion
Last but not least we find Watch Dogs: Legion, which will allow users to catapult into a London of the near future struggling with its decline. The upgrade to the Playstation 5 version will not only guarantee support for the ray tracing and the benefits of audio technology 3D Tempest, which will make the British capital even more alive thanks to the voices of passers-by and the noise of cars and drones in flight, but also the compatibility with the new DualSense adaptive triggers, which will allow players to modulate their reactions, thus increasing immersion in moments of greatest tension.
Finally, we point out that many other titles already announced, but not yet available on the market, will support the new features of the Dualense, although at the moment we don't know to what extent. Waiting for their official debut on the next generation console of the Japanese giant, we present below the list of games that once released will be compatible with the haptic feedback / adaptive triggers of the new Playstation 5 pad:
- Death loop
- AllStars Destruction

- Horizon II Forbidden West
- Kena: Bridge of Spirits
- Marvel's Avengers
