PlayStation 5 has not yet been announced, but for some time some hypotheses have appeared on the net about the technical characteristics that Sony, in all probability, will mount on its new ninth generation machine. Among the various information released, there is one that most of all has appealed to many users, who have always seen the big difference between console and last generation PC in the game uploads and the various textures. If the graphics sector of PS5 and Xbox One reaches almost the same quality as the PC one, the same thing cannot be said of the various uploads: on PC we have long been accustomed to mounting an SSD that greatly improves speed compared to a traditional one Hard Disk supplied on the two consoles.
Here are the main features of the new SSD, designed and optimized just for games:
- The device will be equipped with SRAM drives instead of DRAM: This allows for lower latency and higher bandwidth between the flash memory controller and the data. Furthermore, the patent speaks of a two-speed system for fixed information, such as the contents of game installations and also of a greater "granularity" of access to data that are written only once, and are not rewritten, such as for example game installation data.
- A secondary CPU will be included, a DMAC and a hardware accelerator for decoding, interference checking and decompression.
To prove the truth, Sony has shown that Marvel's Spider-Man game takes just over 8 seconds to load for fast travel on PS4 Pro, while it takes less than 1 second using the new SSD instead. We leave you the "incriminated" video on the cover of the article.
Even more interesting is that thanks to the use of SRAM instead of DRAM there will be a lower cost in the construction of the new SSDs.
