While it didn't sell nearly as much as the competition, Sony however, it found great success with its first handheld game console, the PlayStation Portable. The company has supported the PSP for a full decade and has managed to sell over 80 million units in its lifetime - but now it seems PlayStation players may have reason to get their old PSP out of the closet, as a new Sony patent suggests it could be compatible with the next next generation console PlayStation 5.
Il patent in question, filed on February 6 this year and published on 20th August, includes an image that appears to show various accessories and peripherals that may be compatible with the PlayStation 5 console. This includes the headset PlayStation VR, the famous PlayStation Camera, PlayStation Move, a controller DualShock 4, mouse and keyboard, remote control, the Bluetooth headset and, precisely, the PSP. The patent text also mentions the PlayStation Vita, so it seems that it too may have a role to play with the PS5.
As for why the PS5 can use the PSP or the PS Vita, there is one possibility remote playback capability. Some fans may not even be aware of this, but it is actually possible to play many PS4 games in portable mode if you have a PlayStation Vita, in a way not unlike Wii U. Despite this, in addition to being an ambiguous action by the Japanese company, a possible remote playback would only be available with the PS4 backwards compatible games, since previously it has already been pointed out how much the new titles necessarily require the use of the Dualense. And you, have you already seen the new promotional video of the console?
