2020 will be, barring twists and turns, theyear of the ninth generation of videogames. The last two generations, the one we are currently experiencing and the previous one, have given us great emotions thanks to incredible titles and undisputed masterpieces. They were ten memorable years, and the gaming industry is experiencing a second youth thanks to the myriad of innovations introduced over time, such as the concept of "hybrid console", streaming services, motion capture and much more. Let's look to the future, however, while keeping an eye on the past, drawing up a ranking of the fifteen best games that have seen the light during the last ten years.

Cuphead
Cuphead it is an excellent run and gun from every point of view you look at it. Wonderful from a stylistic point of view, full of ideas and ideas that make it as memorable as few other titles of the same genre. Cuphead's only real problem is having entered stages platform very little studied and forced. If it weren't for this one flaw, he would certainly have deserved a place higher in this ranking. For the rest it remains an incredible title, an explosion of creativity and inventiveness that every gamer should try it at least once.

Fortnite has become a sport, it has become a target of the media, Fortnite has revolutionized the world of video games by also influencing impressive brands such as Call of Duty. Fortnite has changed history, for better or for worse, and one cannot fail to mention among the most important titles of the last ten years.
Mass Effect 2
Putting aside the sad drift taken from the series, Mass Effect 2 is still a great game today, probably the best of the series. What could be called a “That Dirty Dozen” in space offers an incredible and exciting storyline, divinely written characters and an epic context like few other videogame sci-fi. A suicide mission to save the universe that will keep you with your hands glued to the pad from start to finish.
Batman: Arkham City
With Batman: Arkham City Rocksteady she managed to consecrate herself definitively. After the excellent work done with Arkham Asylum, the British study dramatically expanded the idea behind the original title, adding various successful and functional novelties. A varied, frenetic and exciting title that fits perfectly into the fascinating mythology of the Dark Knight. The quality of the narrative manages to reach cinematic standards, and the writing of the various characters is excellent (although the presence of too many of Batman's historical enemies partially affects this aspect). A must have title, whether you are a Batman fan or not.
Skyrim
When Skyrim finally arrived in the shops we were greeted by a beautiful world full of exciting main and side missions… and an incredible amount of bugs and glitches! But Skyrim is what it is also thanks to its hilarious flaws, which make it one of a kind. Skyrim takes the best from previous games in the saga, especially from the never-too-praised Oblivion, and relaunch by creating a huge world, an epic story and hours of fun. It is no coincidence that this title has been reconverted for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, a sign that we are talking about an almost immortal game!
Grand Theft Auto V
Among the titles present in this ranking, Grand Theft Auto V it is without a doubt the most popular. Rockstar, after the discussed Grand Theft Auto IV, he managed to satisfy practically everyone, also creating an online mode that over time has almost dominated the single player experience, which however remains excellent also thanks to its three protagonists (in particular Trevor). GTA V offers the player a variety of ways to approach the title. You can follow the story, throw yourself into the crazy and hilarious online component or simply enjoy Los Santos between a chase, a robbery or a walk in the playground. GTA V has a thousand faces, one more beautiful than the other!
Portal 2
One of those rare cases in which one can actually speak of perfection. Portal 2 is a simply brilliant puzzle game as was its incredible predecessor (who, just wanting to pull, had only poor longevity as a fault). There is a great story, well told and with great dialogue. There is amazing gameplay, and above all a unique and hilarious cooperative mode. A maniacally curated title, full of details, references and easter eggs. If you haven't played it yet, do yourself a favor and fix it immediately!
Red Dead Redemption
What's better than wandering the great outdoors of the Wild West on the back of your trusty horse? Red Dead Redemption is probably one of the Rockstar games most memorable ever, thanks to its Old West themed setting and a truly unique atmosphere. Rockstar has offered us the opportunity to live the dream of being a cowboy, in a living and believable world. An incredible experience, with a well-told and ever-growing plot, to be lived up to the breathtaking finale.
Bloodorne
Bloodborne was the definitive demonstration of the fact that Hidetaka Miyazaki with Dark Souls (but also wanting with Demon's Souls) hadn't had a stroke of luck. Although the playful base was almost identical to what was seen in previous works by FromSoftwareHowever, Bloodborne managed to be completely new thanks to the more aggressive gameplay and the more fascinating (and disturbing) narrative context. It is probably the best Souls developed by From, but it must be said that without Dark Souls this masterpiece would not have existed either.
The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3 it's just like a good and very expensive wine: the more the years pass the more its taste improves. What the guys have managed to do CD Project Red was creating a game world that really feels alive (indeed, is alive!) and in which every decision is really important. A game where even the secondary missions, a great defect of many open worlds, paradoxically manage to become an added value. An immense and majestic title like few others.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
What is there to say but: it is Super Mario Galaxy… but to the nth degree! One of the most successful declinations of the Mario saga ever evolves further from the previous chapter, giving fans of the mustachioed plumber (and not only) a simply perfect platformer, which has the only flaw of being a second chapter, so the more of the same effect is partly there. But there is Yoshi, and that's enough and more!
Death Stranding
Talk about the license plate work Hideo Kojima in a few lines it is practically impossible, but perhaps it can be summed up with a simple term: only. The father of Metal Gear succeeded (again) at create something new and unrepeatable, both in terms of gameplay and the experience itself. Death Stranding it is probably an experiment that no one else will repeat, and for this alone the good Kojima should be rewarded for his genius. It is not a perfect title, nor suitable for all palates, but this does not mean that it is not a great little videogame miracle.
The Last of Us
The achievement of full artistic maturity for the boys of N. The Last of Us, in addition to the gameplay and the technical aspect, it's a story. An exciting story that keeps you glued to the game from start to finish. A coherent and never banal narrative that succeeds in the enterprise of being a masterpiece without having invented anything. Because sometimes it is enough to have a great story to be remembered, and The Last of Us has hit the mark in this. Hopefully The Last Of Us Part II confirms itself on these levels, or even manages to overcome them.
God of War (PS4)
Gof of War is the perfect example of how a franchise should be relaunched. You continue the story from where you left off, leaving the spirit of the previous chapters unchanged but building new foundations starting from scratch. After Ascension the saga needed a decisive turn and the boys of Santa Monica have given their audience a game so impressive but also "small" because between Norse gods, giant snakes, huge scenarios and an epic plot as the saga has accustomed us, everything is concentrated on the troubled relationship between a tormented father and willing son. Imposing but human, that's what God of War is, one of the most amazing games of recent years.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
We cannot speak of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, because every word spent would be superfluous. We could talk about the magnificent setting, a Hyrule never looked so beautiful. We could talk about the gameplay, as varied as few other games given its richness of content. We could talk about the atmosphere, fairytale and colorful in a world where open-world games are always realistic and mature. We could talk about many things, but it would all be useless. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is to be played and loved, from the first to the last minute. Play as Link again and let yourself be enchanted by a world that will give you dozens and dozens of hours of pure fun and emotion. When someone tells you that games are not art, show them The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
