James Gunn fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

James Gunn fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Some stories are unbelievable. Find out that James Gunn, acclaimed director of the first two chapters of Guardiani della galassia, fan-favorite cinecomic, being fired by Disney and Marvel Studios at point blank range is hard to digest. You may wonder, but how did this happen in such a short time?

The story starts with a fringe of pro-Trump activists, including Jack Prosobiec, who during a clash with the director, released a collage of posts dating back to almost 10 years ago by James Gunn via his twitter account. The posts, certainly of dubious taste, date back long before he boarded the Marvel wagon, but they managed to undermine Gunn's credibility to the point that Alan Horn, CEO of Walt Disney Studios, torpedoed it with this official note:

The extremely offensive attitude and statements uncovered in James' Twitter feed are indefensible and out of alignment with our firm's values so we terminated our business relationship with him.

A spokesperson for James he immediately replied, through an official statement:

My words of nearly a year ago were, at the time, completely failed and unfortunate attempts to be provocative. I have regretted what I have written for years, since then, not only because they were silly and not funny at all, as well as completely insensitive and not provocative as I hoped, but also because they do not reflect the person I am today and that I have become from. a little time.

Regardless of how long it has been, I understand and accept the decision (due to business) made today. Even though it's been years, I take responsibility for the way I behaved at the time. All I can do now, besides sincerely repent, and be the best person I can: accept, understand, pursue equality, and think much more about the public statements I make and the obligations I have towards public discussions . To anyone who works in my industry and outside, I offer my deepest apologies. I love you.

Although, as we have already said, the jokes of dubious taste of James Gunn are certainly not very pleasant, they date back to an era where the director carried forward an unconventional image, both on social media and in his films, inserting uncomfortable concepts. Over time, however, James has gained experience and, above all, has grown to the point of turning his politically incorrect towards something more acceptable:

Many people who have followed my career from the beginning know that at the time I saw myself as a provocateur, I made films and put in outrageous jokes and taboo. As I have said publicly many times, growing up as a person has also grown my work and my humor.

I'm not saying I'm better, but I'm a very, very different man than I was a few years ago; today I try to sink my work in love and connection, and less in anger. The days of saying something simply to shock and get a reaction are over.

In the past, I've apologized for my humor, as it hurt people. I am truly sorry, and I truly believe in every word in my apology.

For the record, when I made those bad jokes it was just words. I know it sounds weird, but I really think so.

That said, the truth in all honesty: I made a lot of offensive jokes. I don't do it anymore. I don't blame my past "me", but I much prefer my current "me" and feel a much more complete creator and human being now. I love you.

We do not know all the dynamics, but the situation does not seem so clear, especially considering today's market: it is difficult to think how Disney e The Marvel movies were unaware of these past posts, given that at the time he was not trying to hide them. Furthermore, this irreverence of his had dragged the films of Star-Lord and his companions to very high peaks, the result of a stylistic choice capable of joking at the right point at the right time.

Again, politically correct has won: the actions of the past echo in the present, or rather, in this case, they chirp. We just have to swallow the bitter morsel, mark a new X on the Hollywood list, and move forward knowing that the Guardians of the Galaxy will never be the same again. Cause and consequence.
