The developer of Dying Light 2, Techland, recently revealed in a lengthy interview that the game will come on PlayStation 5 including the Performance and Quality modes, allowing gamers to enjoy features such as ray tracing, 60 FPS e resolution 4K, depending on their preferences. The rendering director by Techland, Tomasz Szałkowski, stated the following regarding the performance of the game:
We plan to let you choose between quality (including ray tracing), performance (over 60 FPS) and 4K. As we are working hard on performance, I cannot provide further details on this point. We try to focus as much as possible on the next generations.
From my point of view, the new generation of consoles must focus on new technologies such as ray tracing. Artificial intelligence systems are also worth mentioning. Everything is held together by the new component-based welding system. We also have a new game world editor. C-Engine makes even better use of multi-core processors.
We will bring new effects by applying them to shadows, AO and light reflections, for example from the player's flashlight. We are also experimenting with Nvidia to expand the effects base. Ray tracing is a great technology. We are exploring new possibilities related to DX12 Ultimate, such as VRS. Mesh shaders are quite a matter for the next project. DL2 will continue to be developed for a long time, so the results of our research will be visible even after the game's release and will significantly affect its quality.
First announced at E3 2018, the sequel aims to be much more ambitious than the original as it will add an entire RPG system based on choice and consequence. Dying Light 2 was to be launched in early 2020, before being postponed due to Covid. Dying Light 2 is currently in production for PlayStation 5, PlayStataion 4, PC, Xbox Series XS and Xbox One and will launch in 2021.
