Control and more, Remedy works on 5 games

As reported by Gamesindustry, 5 new games are in development at Remedy Entertainment, split between 4 of their internal teams. Their core team, whose latest effort is represented by Control, is working on the next big title of the software house. A second team is working on the Vanguard multiplayer title. The third team is developing 2 projects not yet announced, which they will be in partnership with epic Games. Finally, the fourth team is grappling with the campaign of Crossfire X, a title that should be released this year. The CEO Teo Virtala said:

When a Remedy game comes out, it has to stand up somehow. For the genre or category we are approaching, they must have all the elements that make the game memorable or define the category. [This means] that with our skills and market opportunities, all of our games can and should be successful games.

Just recently the development studio has expanded and refurbished. Virtala then continued with the statements:

When we were focused on developing a single story, I don't think we were using all the hard work in its entirety to create the background for these worlds. With Control we took the first step to give players more reasons to spend more time in the world, explore it and this has been successful. "

He then spoke about the project in collaboration with Epic Games:

About the project we are carrying out with Epic, it is in a world where we want players to spend more time. There are more opportunities to explore the world and the brand than there are in a single game.

This suggests that the title may be a openworld. He also expressed himself on multiplayer:

Multiplayer is a very competitive space, especially when it comes to PvP or team vs team, but there are many successful games in the co-op space. There are clear reasons for this: in PvP and team vs team, content creation is not a big deal, because other players are the content, they always make the experience new session after session.

In co-op, the challenge was often the content. To create lasting experiences, the developer cannot rely solely on crafting by hand and creating every single level and mission because it typically isn't a sustainable path. We have seen that there are still unresolved questions about how a lasting, service-based co-op game could be created. If we can solve these problems, if we can take the way we tell stories through exploration and the world, these could be elements we can use better in both co-op and PvP.
