Ubisoft has unveiled PS4 titles that will not be backwards compatible on PlayStation 5 [update]

Ubisoft today unveiled the list of games currently available on PlayStation 4 that they will not be backwards compatible on PlayStation 5, the next-gen console of Sony. Most of the titles on the list are part of the series Assassin's Creed, which is rather strange, since in theory it should be one of the franchises deserving more attention from the French giant.

Below, the list of Ubisoft games that will not be compatible on PlayStation 5:

• Assassin's Creed Syndicate
• Assassin's Creed Chronicles Trilogy Pack
• Assassin's Creed Chronicles India
• Assassin's Creed Chronicles China
• Assassin's Creed Chronicles Russia
• Risk
• Star Trek Bridge Crew
• Werewolves Within
• Space Junkies

In contrast, all Ubisoft games currently available on Xbox One they will be backwards compatible on Xbox Series X / S.

Among the pages of its official website Ubisoft has published an article where the details that regulate the functioning of the Cross-Play and those relating to Cross-Progression. Cross-Play, as you probably already know, is the feature that allows players to enter the same online multiplayer match of the same game, but on a different platform (a PlayStation 4 version game owner, for example, can challenge a friend who owns an Xbox One at the same game).  The Cross-Progression instead allows you to play the title on one platform and then be able to continue the adventure on a different console, as long as your Ubisoft account (in this case) is linked to the accounts of both consoles. Game progress will be saved on your Ubisoft account and not on the platforms used to play. In this regard the French publisher and development house has carried out some changes to the Account linking process, which covering the consoles of the PlayStation, Xbox, Stadia and Nintendo Switch family.

We keep our fingers crossed, before saying goodbye, in the hope that Ubisoft's choice not to ensure the backward compatibility of these titles on PlayStation 5 is only momentary. For the time being, we have removed the Ubisoft Connect article and the forum post regarding the compatibility of some games with their previous versions. There may have been some inaccuracies on Ubisoft titles that will be playable on PlayStation 5.
