The Medium, title coming this January 29 2021, is the new exclusive console for next-gen devices, Xbox Series X / S di Microsoft products and PC, by Polish developers Bloober team, already authors of horror-themed video games like the two Layers of fear, Observer and the most recent one Blair Witch. The wait for The Medium is therefore almost over, in about two weeks the title will be available on the Microsoft stores and playable "for free" on day one with the subscription Xbox Game Pass. Pending the launch, however, Bloober team has decided to delight fans with a long gameplay video of 14 minutes on the game, of which it is already possible to analyze many of the mechanics present. The Medium is characterized by strong components from stealth and puzzle game, all in a context supernatural horror. However, the element that most distinguishes the work of Bloober team is the choice to divide the action on screen with one double fixed camera, which allows the player to frame the two realities in which the protagonist finds herself at the same time. In the role of Marianne in fact, a sensitive medium, we will have to venture into cursed places, halfway between real world and that of spirits, two parallel dimensions inextricably linked to each other, yet unfathomable in the eyes of normal human beings.
In fact, Marianne will be able to use her spirit form to visit the beyond world and look for resources that can help her to continue her journey in the real dimension, thus solving the puzzles that will be found before. Like the real world, moreover, the kingdom of spirits is populated by numerous "entities", visible however only to those who can scrutinize them beyond the thin veil that separates the two universes. These entities are very varied and not all peaceful, making the faint threshold that divides the two universes as an escape point for murderous monstrosities that will force the protagonist to hide and to flee to save their lives.
