Il CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations), the largest Muslim civil rights charity in the United States, has appealed through an official press release to request the cancellation of the war video game Six Days in Fallujah, which is expected to launch later this year on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (target platforms have yet to be confirmed).
The Six Days in Fallujah project it had been abandoned for eleven years ago due to similar controversy, only to be relaunched by Konami in early February of this year after the cancellation. For CAIR, Six Days in Fallujah "will make Arab murders perceive as a normal thing in America and in the world". These are the words of Huzaifa Shahbaz, the spokesperson of the institution:
The gaming industry must stop dehumanizing Muslims. Video games like Six Days in Fallujah only serve to glorify the violence that took the lives of hundreds of Iraqi civilians, justify the war in Iraq, and reinforce anti-Muslim sentiment at a time when anti-Muslim bigotry continues to threaten the human life.
CAIR's request to cancel the game follows the perplexities related to the project already highlighted by some industry journalists, such as Rebekah Valentine of IGN who considered the events narrated in the game as: "complicated to deal with and painful for those who are connected to the events that really happened". On the TRTWorld portal, moreover, in relation to the game it was declared: "Six Days in Fallujah highlights the problem of Islamophobia of the video game industry".
