A few days after its release, Sony has released a Returnal's spectacular new “Story Trailer”, the brand new Roguelike for PlayStation 5 which will lead us to the discovery of alien worlds, which we will have to face death after death, learning from our mistakes to be able to complete our adventure. The title of Housemarque è to be released on April 30, 2021. At the bottom of the article you can admire the splendid new trailer, which introduces us to some new features of the title but that it also tells us a lot about the plot that we will discover in the course of our epic.
The protagonist of the title is Selene, an astronaut who landed on an unknown alien planet called Atropos, inhabited by aggressive and deadly creatures. Our heroine arrived on the planet following a strange message, which was delivered to her by an entity calling itself the White Shadow. To discover the origin of the message, we will have no choice but to die. however, as in all titles of the genre, death will only be a way to treasure our experiences and come back stronger than before. Unlike other roguelikes, where the plot is often just an outline, Returnal, on the other hand, seems to focus on a well-articulated story, as you can understand from the Story Trailer itself. The narrative director of Housemarque, Gregory Louden, and the game director Harry Krueger in fact, they said that their purpose is precisely to "persecute the players", through a story that will be full of tension and Sci-Fi horror elements.
Returnal will then, as the developers themselves promised, extremely punitive. However, what appears to be an insurmountable challenge the game will have to offer is actually a far cry from what one might think. The terms used such as "rogue-like" and "rogue-lite", therefore, they are not actually meant to be a limit to the game, but rather a way to make the product more interesting and "fresh", without having to intimidate future players of the challenge that will come before them.
