The development director of DiRT 5, Robert Karp, was recently interviewed by Wccftech and talked about the next generation of consoles. In addition to having said his about the potential of the next-gen and the team's desire to take full advantage of the various features, Karp also mentioned adaptive triggers of the DualSense of PS5, which for him could have very interesting implementations in the future, especially with regard to racing games. These are his words:
When we get knowledge about hardware and details about the next generation, there is always a lot of excitement in the studio. This leads to a lot of discussions on how we can make the most of the different features.
What we have done is create a quality game on the current console generation. So let's think about how we can leverage the next generation of consoles. The power allows the 120 framerate option [on Xbox Series X]. We want to take advantage of fast loading.
On PS5, for example, you have adaptive triggers which could have really interesting implementations, particularly for racing. There is a lot of excitement about it. You will get different feedback based on different surfaces, and we have many different surface types. Haptic feedback gives us the opportunity to do something new and different, helping us to increase immersion.
Recall that DiRT 5 will arrive next October 9 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and later also on PS5 and Xbox Series X. In case you are interested, at this link you will find our preview of the title.
