During the PlayStation 5 Showcase aired yesterday, September 16, a new service was shown that can be used on the next-gen console of Sony, Namely PlayStation Plus Collection, thanks to which all those who will be subscribers to the PlayStation Plus will be able to take advantage of a huge library of first and third party games released on PlayStation 4, by downloading the game directly to the console and without having to pay any additions to the subscription or carry out microtransactions. This new possibility given to the next users of the Sony console has surprised many players, comparing the service to a kind of Xbox Game Pass and rekindling the various requests of most of the fans who would like to take advantage of a similar subscription also on PlayStation 5. To clarify any kind of doubt, the same intervened Jim Ryan, current CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, which has completely denied the Japanese company's approach to a service like Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass.
For us, having a game catalog is not something that defines a platform. We have no intention of putting new game releases on a monthly subscription service. Our games have large productions, in which more than 100 million dollars are invested in their development. We simply fail to see such a service as sustainable for our company.
These are the words of the CEO in an interview with GamesIndustry magazine, in which he confirmed the position of the Japanese company regarding the age-old question of an elusive "PlayStation Game Pass". According to Ryan, a similar operation would be absolutely deleterious for the company, also given the high cost of all productions currently in progress. Obviously, the Japanese production company will particularly keep an eye on the market trend, and if the bar of earnings will move more towards subscriptions than digital or physical sales, then certainly Sony will not give up creating a service on the fake. line of the already present Game Pass for the systems of the American giant Microsoft.
