PlayStation 5 e Xbox Series X / S are now out in most parts of the world, and as expected both sold out very soon in almost every global retailer. Despite everything, however, many eyes are focused on the Japanese market, which for several years now has been dominated by Nintendo and to a lesser extent by Sony… And also according to the first sales estimates things don't seem to have changed for this new generation.
As reported by Famitsu, PlayStation 5 in the first four days managed to place 118,005 unit in the Japanese territory, a number not particularly impressive for the launch of a console but which most likely has a lot to do with the lack of availability of the system in the nation. It would also be one of the lowest-selling launches for a PlayStation family system, including handheld consoles, second only to PlayStation 3 which sold less than 90,000 units at launch. As for the games, however, the most successful titles in the first 4 days are Demon's Souls, which reached 18,607 copies sold, and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which placed 18,640 copies. The latter, moreover, would also seem to have had a great impact on the sales of the original title 'Marvel's Spider-Man', which in a recent update by the Global Brand Marketing Leader of PlayStation confirms the exceeding 20 million copies sold since its launch in September 2018.
Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in Japan have been collectively sold 20,534 unit in the first six days of their launch, branding this as the worst launch of a Microsoft console on Japanese territory, surpassing even Xbox One which at launch placed around 24,000 systems at its launch in 2013. Unfortunately, Famitsu has not been able to collect exact data at the moment to see how many of these units sold belong to 'Series X' and how many to ' Series S '. We would like to remind you again that unfortunately the launch of both these consoles has seen a big problem of availability, and companies have drastically restricted the number of consoles available on Japanese territory.
