Kingdom Hearts: Testsuya Nomura returns to talk about the future of the series

Tetsuya Nomura is back to talk at the launch of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, expressing himself on the future of the saga born from the union of Square Enix e Disney. In the interview given to Dengeki Online, creative director Nomura shared some new information about the series and also commented on a hypothetical new title for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, clarifying that he wants to “definitively conclude the narrative arcs that have remained open in Kingdom Hearts 3” and that he wants to change a formula that begins to feel the weight of the years.

In the course of the interview it emerged how Nomura wants try to change the game world and the way of telling the stories, closing at the same time all the outstanding situations. In fact, Melody of Memory tells a fundamental part of the story, and most likely in the future other titles will arrive that will continue to tell this universe, expanding it.

I usually plan a sequel before anything I'm working on. When I was working on the original Kingdom Hearts, I was already thinking about Chain of Memories. For Kingdom Hearts II and Roxas, I was thinking about starting the game with a new protagonist, but at the time I didn't have a concrete vision. I don't think there will be situations where you meet Xehanort as the main story antagonist. Although the effects it had on the story remain, and as you can see in the story of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory.

The discussion then moved on to new generation console, specifically on what one of his next-gen games could look like:

If we were to make a new Kingdom Hearts for next-gen consoles, it will be released after many other companies have already launched high-impact titles, so we should get to work on something big to rival these blockbusters. Obviously it's just a guess because we haven't announced that there will be a new game for PS5 or Xbox Series X.

2022 will be the twentieth anniversary of Kingdom Hearts, and Tetsuya Nomura concluded by inviting all players to keep their eyes peeled for any announcements.
