In October 2020, a developer started working on a new mod for Half-Life: Alyx, which attempted to bring the world of BioShock in the VR game of VALVE. Now, the game finally has a full campaign, which promises to be very interesting, combining the experience of the game that took us into the splendid Rapture with the implementation of the gameplay that we have come to love in the game for VR. But most importantly, you can count on some permissions came directly from the original developers.
Return to Rapture, this is the name of the unofficial campaign, realized by Wim Buytaert, is an eight-part story that revisits underwater dystopia even more in a campaign that serves as a sort of VR hybrid remake / remix. While the original demo had seen the reorganization of many elements of Alyx to bring the mod to life, Wim Buytaert recently said that the new campaign will instead use around 200 official elements of the game, after receiving permission directly from the original developers. Experience can now count on real ones Circus of Value and, above all, on Little Sister, elements that have even been modified to be fully usable in VR. The developer also has hired a professional voice actor to tell the story, which sees Alyx herself landing outside Rapture's entrance. To increase the immersion of the game, there are now also the original documents and the recordings of the protagonists taken directly from BioShock.
In the trailer, which you can view at the bottom of the article, you can see the splendid work done by Buytaert. Rapture is more menacing than ever in this new first-person experience, which will allow us to live the adventure leveraging the technologies and gameplay mechanics introduced by Half-Life: Alyx, such as the presence ofHUD directly on the protagonist's gloves, or the possibility both to move the objects of the scenario and to peek from behind the shelters to anticipate the terrible threats of the underwater city.
