Google Stadia: both internal development studios close

Google Stadia, Google's proprietary service / platform launched about a year ago that promised to let everyone play without using a physical console, since its launch it has never managed to break into the hearts of millions of gamers, perhaps still too fond and willing to own a gaming machine rather than a subscription service. Although the premises were positive in several respects, to date Stadia can be defined almost as a failure, so much so as to induce the same company to close the only two gaming divisions focused on making titles. The company has announced that it will leave its platform directly to game publishers, while continuing to offer its Stadia Pro service to the public, but no longer part of the business of creating titles.

To date, neither of the two jobs have been distributed yet, and all employees located at the Los Angeles and Montrel offices, approximately 150 developers, will be redeployed with new roles within Google. As already described, the giant will still continue to manage the service and has indicated the possibility of still signing up for new exclusive titles or bringing third-party games to its "platform". The head of Google Stadia operations, Phil Harrison, longtime platform executive, will focus on pursuing these new partnerships.

We see an important opportunity to work with partners looking for a gaming solution based on the advanced technical infrastructure and tools of the Stadia platform. We believe this is the best path to transform Stadia into a long-term sustainable business that helps grow the industry.

We will see how the evolution of the situation will bring about improvements or not to the Google service that, at least for a small part, users have decided to marry.
