Bad news coming for all fans of Crucible, free-to-play multiplayer third-person shooter developed and published by Relentless Studios. In the past few hours, the team of Amazon Studios communicated that the development of the title will be permanently stopped. There will be a final playtest and "community party" in the coming weeks, after which Crucible matchmaking will be disabled. Finally, the servers of the ill-fated third-person shooter will be shut down next month, Monday 9 November. We report below the words of the US software house:
Essence hunters,
In July, we moved Crucible to closed beta. We've compiled a list of features that we felt would improve the player experience, which we shared publicly on our roadmap, and with the exception of custom games (which we expect to ship in the next few days), we've completed them all. Once these features were provided, our next step was to evaluate the feedback we received, coupled with the data we collected, to determine the path to take.
This assessment led us to a difficult decision: we will stop developing Crucible. We really appreciate the way our fans have mobilized around our efforts and loved seeing your responses to the changes we've made over the past few months, but ultimately we haven't seen a healthy, sustainable future for Crucible. We will be relocating our team to focus on New World and other upcoming Amazon Games projects.
We will offer a full refund for any purchase you make. You can find more information on our support page. We will also disable in-game purchases.
In the coming weeks we will be hosting a final playtest and community celebrations, both in the game and in our official Discord. After that we will disable matchmaking, although you will still be able to play Crucible via the custom games feature. Stay tuned for more information on that event. The servers will remain active for custom games until noon PST on Monday, November 9, 2020.
Thank you, as always, for being part of our community. This has been a labor of love and we are grateful for the time we spent with you on planet Crucible.
Therefore, despite the development of Crucible preparing to draw to a close, the team plans another addition before the servers shut down: custom games. The mechanic will allow users to play the free-to-play multiplayer third-person shooter even when matchmaking is disabled in the next few weeks, no later than the next. November 9 2020. Furthermore, as evidenced by the moving message to the community, the developers will be moved to other projects under development at Amazon Games. At the moment the only title that is specifically mentioned is N, Amazon's MMO currently planned for 2021. The other major project of the American software house in the works is an MMO dedicated to Lord of the Rings, although at the moment very few details are known about the latter, including the title of the game.
