Changing the PSN ID is now possible, but is it really convenient?

The feature concerning the change of the PSN ID has been in demand for console gamers for years Sony, and finally it is reality. However, from the very first moments the Japanese company was elusive on the details, and making a bit of clarity now that this possibility is concrete, it's time to put the pros and cons on the scales. In fact, the choice could be drastic for more than one reason: for example, not all video games will be compatible with this change, while others have problems, ranging from light to very punchy. Let's proceed step by step.

Change your own PSN ID can be done at any time from the settings menu of your profile on PS4, but only the first time will be free: from the second onwards, each change will cost € 9.99 for standard users and € 4.99 for PlayStation Plus members.

The feature will only be fully supported for games released after April 1, 2018. Games released on an earlier date may experience issues:

We do want to take this opportunity to clarify one point - as a result of the preview program, we've found an instance where a game did not fully support the feature, even though it was originally published after 1st April, 2018, contrary to what we mentioned in our original announcement. All PS4 games originally published on or after 1st April, 2018 have been developed to support the online ID change feature, but there may be cases where a game is not fully compatible.

As for the technical problems mentioned, Sony has disclosed some lists where the titles that have still unknown problems are highlighted, arm in arm with those that have already been revealed. You can find it at this link. Currently the most critical problems include the loss of the currency earned in game and in microtransactions, loss of game progress, the loss of user-created content, some parts of the game in question that don't work as well as they should (be it online or offline).

Among the titles affected by minor problems there are also noble names such as Dark Souls 2 and 3, The Last of Us Remastered, but also Warframe and GTA V. Among those with critical problems we also find Little Big Planet 3 and Onrush, which are on the list of the 10 most problematic titles ... with all that the latter was released in June of 2018 (well after the date reported).

Before starting this procedure, we therefore advise you to evaluate the pros and cons, or perhaps wait for most of these "side effects" to be resolved.
