In the last few hours, through a FAQ page on the official website, Activision announced the different editions available of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the new title in the popular shooter series coming next 13st November su PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC. Among the information released we can also find those concerning the title upgrade to the next-generation Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles at the time of their launch, which however cannot be downloaded for free in all the different editions available for both platforms. The news, however, that stands out more to the eye concerns Xbox versions of the game: the title, if purchased for new generation consoles, will also include the old gen version; however it was also pointed out that the Xbox One version of the game will not be upgradeable to Series X.
Let's see in detail the different editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and which of these will allow the transition to next-gen consoles at the time of their launch, expected by the end of 2020.
- Digital Standard Edition - PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Battle.net
The Digital Standard Edition includes the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War base game along with the Confrontation Weapons Pack which includes two Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War weapon blueprints, available at launch. The PlayStation 4 version can be updated for PlayStation 5 via the PlayStation Store. The Xbox One upgrade to Xbox Series X via the Microsoft Store, on the other hand, is currently in the evaluation phase and will currently only be available in the digital Cross-Gen bundle. Both versions of the current generation will be playable on the respective next generation console but the game it will not include any of the new features, such as higher framerate, new hardware-based ray tracing, faster load times, and more. - Physical Standard Edition - PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
The physical Standard Edition includes the base game Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and is now available for pre-order on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One through select retailers. The PlayStation 4 version will have an option to upgrade to PlayStation 5 via the PlayStation Store, and the PlayStation 4 disc will need to be inserted into the PlayStation 5 to access the updated version of the game. The Xbox One version will not be able to be upgraded to Xbox Series X. - Next-Gen Physical Standard Edition - PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X
The standard physical edition for PlayStation 5 will include the disc version of the base game. The PlayStation 5 Standard Edition runs on the console version with a disc drive, and cannot be used on the PlayStation 4. The standard physical edition for Xbox Series X will include both the Xbox Series X version and the Xbox One version of the title.. - Digital Cross-Gen Bundle - PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X
The Cross-Gen Bundle Edition will include the base game for both console generations within the same platform family. As for the version for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, buy the Cross-Gen package on PlayStation 4 and receive both versions of the game. The version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be downloaded immediately on the console at the time of the launch of the title, scheduled for next November 13th. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X version of the game will automatically be available for download when the consoles launch later this year.
