For Batwoman there has been nothing positive in recent months, amid the pandemic Covid-19, which has affected film and serial productions around the world, as we all know, and the abandonment of the star Ruby Rose. The main role will in fact be entrusted to Javicia leslie for the second season, which will in effect be a new character to be called Ryan Wilder. Finally after a few months it would seem there is news, as according to a tweet from the showrunner, we could be very close to seeing it on the small screen. Caroline Dries in fact said that the production of the second season it will even start on Thursday of this week, underlining how proud she is to participate in a production full of very talented people.
The protagonist of this new season, Ryan Wilder, is described as a nice personality, a little silly, but also a little messy. Not at all like Kate Kane, the woman protagonist of the first season. With no one to support her in her life, Ryan has fallen into the abyss in drugs and tries to mask her pain with bad habits. She is forced to live in a van with her plant. She is a skilled person, a true fighter and, when needed, even dangerous.
I am extremely proud to be the first black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television. As a bisexual woman I am honored to join this groundbreaking show that will also be a pioneer in a way for the LGBTQ + community.
Leslie said in a statement at the time the casting was first announced.
To be honest, I considered the soap opera version for a minute as there were already a couple of episodes written, but after some thought, the producer, who is much better prepared on these things than me, convinced me totally rethink the Batwoman character and restart him as a different character.
The second season of Batwoman is expected to return with new episodes in January 2021.
