As recently announced, Game as a Service soon Battleborn will permanently close its doors. The game multiplayer, developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K GAMES, unfortunately did not have the success hoped for over time, and that is why the developer has gradually decided to abandon the support to the work, until the servers are permanently shut down. From January 25 2021 in fact, it will no longer be possible to access Battleborn in any way, given the online nature of the experience, the game will therefore remain only a "distant memory" for the entire community that has continued to support it to this day.
As early as February last year, the premium in-game currency - the Platinum - had been removed from sale, due to the continued decline in active players. As the data show, in fact, the number of average players quickly came close to very low heights, even reaching i 113 players in June 2020. The title was announced in 2014 as a rather similar production to the world of Overwatch, or other online shooters that have seen much better fates over time. Unfortunately, perhaps due to an insufficiently aggressive marketing campaign, perhaps for one content scarcity reported near day one, players did not particularly enjoy the game in its entirety.
One factor to consider is definitely the price, complete on day one and only subsequently reduced to the bone, only to disappear in favor of a model free-to-play adopted for Battleborn, which however failed to foster the development of a large community. We obviously hope that the next Gearbox productions can live a better destiny, as indeed happened for the saga of Borderlands, among other things connected in part precisely to the Battleborn universe.
