Let's do an analysis of the new motherboard Gigabyte X99 Ultra Gaming, which is proposed as a new market element for those looking for a very high level gaming. Will this new motherboard allow you to make the most of competent technologies such as the new 1080 and 1060 graphics cards? Let's find out in this review!
Let's start with the aesthetics of the product: the Gigabyte X99 Ultra Gaming motherboard offers the new system Ambient Surround, which will allow you to adjust its lighting in total autonomy, choosing all the colors you prefer in the RGB range. Thanks to U.2 support, the X99 communicates more efficiently with new video cards, making immersion into the world of VR 30% smoother; also, thanks to the Double Locket Braket system, we will be able to insert even the most bulky cards, in complete safety. The additional block present guarantees a double stability compared to normal housing; their structure, defined Ultra Durable ™ Memory Armorfinally, it will prevent your X-99 from bending under the weight of the most massive video cards.
The large space prepared for the slots between the cards is certainly important, which will guarantee a flow of air never seen before: thanks to this, in fact, we can comfortably accommodate up to three video cards, without worrying about any overheating due to excessive proximity. One last note concerning the internal temperatures: the board is equipped with the system Dual Hybrid Fan Headers, which will allow us to mount up to two cooling pumps.
The Gigabyte X99 Ultra Gaming motherboard will house three new USB ports: the Intel USB 3.1 Type C, of 20 Gigabits per second (which correspond to 4 Gigabytes per second), will allow us to transfer data at twice the speed of the current ports on the market. The new door U.2 instead, it will allow us to reach a speed of 32 Gigabits per second, a huge step forward compared to normal SATA 3 which only travel at 6 Gigabits per second. By housing an Intel 750 series SSD, it will be possible to achieve such speeds. Last but not least is the new one port M2 which, instead, thanks to the modular slots, allows us to insert all the new models of PCIe NVMe SSD.
The new digital management system of the electric current of the X99 guarantees the perfect flow of energy to each component, avoiding overheating and thus increasing its life cycle. The Gigabyte X99 Ultra Gaming motherboard owns 8 slots for housing the latest generation DDR4 RAM. The new connectors will allow you to reach a frequency of 3400MHz, based on the power of the RAM you insert and, thanks to the system Killer ™ E2400, the X99 will guarantee you an online gaming experience of a completely different level compared to standard systems: in fact, through the double ethernet port, we can connect up to two PCs in the LAN, or increase the bandwidth of our computer by connecting up to two cables, relieving the workload done by the CPU in case of massive data download.
The addition of the Turbo B-Clock allows more experienced users to overclock without limiting them to the classic 5% standard (we recommend this option only to users who need to push the processor to the maximum, such as in the case of graphic rendering and taking the necessary precautions regarding cooling). The system Realtek ALC1150 it will allow us to listen to music at very high levels, reaching 115dB SNR, an experience comparable to listening to a concert in first person.
The GIGABYTE DualBIOS ™ patent provides for the coexistence of two chips used to manage the BIOS: these will be mirrored, in order to always have a backup at hand for all eventualities, such as in the case of virus attacks or failure of an update. In addition, the Q-Flash Plus will allow you to update the BIOS even without CPU and RAM; using a normal USB stick, in fact, we can carry out an update by connecting it to the white port, here a LED will signal us when the process is completed.
