When you are talking about final Fantasy a very delicate question is always faced. The saga has been increasingly successful over the years, except for a resounding flop as regards the Fabula Nova Crystallis, or the trilogy linked to the thirteenth chapter. To raise the spirits of the series, he thought about it Tabata with Final Fantasy XV, although even in this case the choice to fragment the contents that were initially foreseen in the game was not appreciated. Tabata found himself climbing a mountain probably far higher than the capacity of the entire studio, as the work created by the team previously led by Nomura was apparently almost entirely useless. Why this little premise? Simple, Final Fantasy VII Remake, project initially placed in the hands of Nomura himself, it seems that it will not see the light in the short term, despite the announcement made now 4 years ago. It almost makes us laugh if we think about the fact that, at least as it was initially disclosed, Square Enix should have given absolute priority to the remake of the seventh chapter. In addition to the failure to promise, from the latest rumors it even seems that Nomura has even lost the reins of the project.
Made in hand now we have a Kingdom Hearts III almost close to release and a Final Fantasy VII Remake of which not even the shadow is seen. As in the case of Final Fantasy XV, development problems have also emerged in this case, probably also a creative lack linked to having to improve a product that already in 97 ', at least for the technology of the time, was perfect and upset the videogame medium. If we combine very high expectations with even greater pressures, something must inevitably have gone wrong. Maybe at the next E3 we will see Cloud and companions again but, in the current situation, we will hardly be able to see any video related to the final product. The biggest mistake, however, lies at the basis of everything, that is to have announced it. All the hype surrounding this project certainly does not do well, especially if we think that Nomura has to complete his greatest work at the same time, or the final chapter of Kingdom Hearts. Work, work and work, this was probably the mantra that Square Enix launched to its employees and we, I mean as a general user, have certainly not contributed to facilitating this process.
Believe me when I tell you that writing is difficult for me, because the disappointment in me is really great. I am disappointed because I was fascinated by a product that did not exist yet, disappointed by the apparent backward step of the creator of my favorite saga, disappointed because this time I really believed it. Thinking about how to rationally justify what happened from the moment of the announcement is not easy at all, there is no concrete information to hold on to. Of course, recently some more information has been disseminated, like that linked to the change of study. it seems that Square Enix, after CyberConnect2 failed to respect the plans, decided to commission Final Fantasy VII Remake to another in-house studio, who found the material already created unusable. In addition, it seems that adapting this material to their needs would take even longer. So here we are starting from scratch. I wonder how it is possible, if all this were true, that a development company like Square Enix did not have the honest intellectual to announce such a decision, keep the fans in limbo to then give him - hopefully not - a new Final Fantasy XV, a game that, although beautiful, remains cut in its entirety, from the plot up to basic elements of the gameplay.
For some projects, enthusiasm is not enough, the name of the brand is not enough, we need more coldness from those on the other side of the fence, from those who know that the actual can move the feelings of millions of players. I perfectly remember my personal joy in seeing Final Fantasy VII Remake images on the E3 stage, as I remember the gameplay released on the PSX. I remember where I was, who I was with, and the feelings that arose within me. Now, however, I'm afraid to wait another 10 years, or maybe never see it arrive. Enchanted, deluded and disappointed. These were the three phases that have accompanied me over the years. Square Enix has announced that E3 2018 there will be interesting surprises, although most likely everything will be focused on Kingdom Hearts III, Tomb Raider and the new contents of the second season pass of Final Fantasy XV, the hope of seeing again on the stage of Los Angeles a succulent movie of Final Fantasy VII Remake it has not yet set.
