Thunder force is one of the new original films Netflix, which more than many others has been able to make people talk about itself in recent months, proving to be able to intrigue many viewers eager to view the production, which is available on the streaming platform from Friday April 9. Melissa McCarthy e Octavia Spencer they find themselves struggling with superpowers to manage, criminals to deal with and a relationship of friendship, worn out by time and personal choices, to unite them. The film is one comedy which combines science fiction and action, and is proposed to the public as a balm against sadness, giving laughter and dismantling well-known clichés.
Sociopaths to conquer the world
During the introduction of the film, the origin of the superpowers acquired by some people on Earth is briefly explained: in 1983 an interstellar cosmic ray pulse hit the planet, causing a genetic transformation in specific individuals. Not everyone, however, is capable of developing supernatural abilities. The basic requirement to be able to acquire such powers is a natural one predisposition to be sociopaths. No nobility of mind, moral values, superfine intelligence or spirit of sacrifice then, but sociopathy! Those affected by the powers, baptized Disbelievers, thus begin to stain themselves with various crimes and are, therefore, branded as dangerous.
Lydia and Emily, the protagonists of the film, have been friends since high school, where they started to work side by side and support each other. The first reveals immediately that she is an unusual, stout and dal girl strong character, who beats up bullies and falls asleep in class. Emily, on the other hand, is back from a serious one family tragedy: his parents were killed by the Unbelievers and his goal is to bring the guilty to justice by studying hard to make a difference. As the years go by, however, the relationship cools and the two girls lose sight of each other, leading lives at the antipodes and finding herself quite by accident, long after, on the very day Emily finally managed to complete her research. In fact, it has developed an innovative method for induce superpowers in ordinary people, and wishes to experience it on herself. Lydia, however, clumsy and prone to disaster, messes up plans by accidentally injecting her serum. super strength. Emily just has to take advantage of the pillsinvisibility and resign herself to the idea that two people will have to live with the powers she had originally designed just for her. This is the birth of the Thunder Force team (by the way, the idea of the name is from Lydia).
Raw chicken in shovelfuls
La comicality is the absolute protagonist of the entire film. Even the few scenes that are emotionally sad, or dominated by killing and violence, are artfully constructed to be witty and light. Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer are magnificent in the role that has been attributed to them, and they carry on the scenes, line by line, with great class and irresistible comic streak. The superhero clichés are treated for just what they are: mundane situations that have repeated themselves in other movies, TV series and comic stories. This allows the viewer to immerse themselves in history with a smile on their lips, and find themselves in front of a fresh and fun work, a real pearl both in moments of stress and tension, and in complete relaxation.
Comic jokes and scenes are really squeezed everywhere. For example, the injections made by Lydia to have super strength have the side effect of alter the taste of the dishes. The solution is simple: raw chicken. The new superhero devours whole packages of completely raw chicken slices as if they were delicious granny cookies. And what about the specials reinforced costumes of Lydia and Emily, who cannot be washed because they still haven't figured out how to do it? The two protagonists are also equipped with a bulky Rubensian physique, and the car they should use for the missions is too small. Result: getting on and off the vehicle become two complicated and slow actions, in which you get stuck and you have to squeeze. However, despite their sturdiness, Emily and Lydia are perfectly fine at ease and, if the machine is too small, the solution is not to lose weight, but to take a bigger one!

And now we come to the "fearsome" antagonists: the Disbelievers. Few (but good) appear in the film, each with particular abilities and endowed with a series of jokes that considerably cushion their danger. Their way of interfacing with the Thunder Forces, and even with each other, is hilarious and almost naive. Their powers are varied and sometimes useless, like those they characterize le Crab, a man with two large crab claws for arms, who will take an immediate sentimental interest in Lydia. These are antagonists who do not let themselves be despised and, with their clips, are an integral part of the global comedy.
Le battles with punches and superpowers they are not lacking, but they are condensed in the second half of the film and interspersed with parlor jokes and some twists. The friendship that linked the Thunder Forces throughout their youth now glues the team together, guaranteeing an excellent teamwork, although there is no lack of cracks caused by the years of separation. Faced with the Disbelievers, Emily can finally achieve her goal: to try to bring these criminal sociopaths to justice in order to avenge the death of her parents. And Lydia is ready to be his (strong) right hand.
