Il Free Game of the Week is the appointment of Resources4Gaming.com which, every Saturday, puts in the spotlight a downloadable iPhone app at no cost. Not necessarily new titles or leading labels but rather, simply, products that deserve to be taken into consideration. All the more so if you don't have to shell out even a penny.
Born in the early '80s at the behest of Hasbro, which distributed a line of transformable robots made by Takara in the West and has seen fit to build an entire franchise around it,
entrusting Marvel the creation of stories that have later become a famous cartoon and a less famous (but at times really enjoyable) comic, the Transformers have returned in recent years of great relevance thanks to the filmic reinterpretation signed by Michael Bay. However, in the hearts of longtime fans remain the toys, from the very first models with magnetic man (a legacy of the diaclonian origins of the various characters) to the spectacular "merge groups", and epic scenes from the animated series such as the one in which the huge Devastator literally holds in hand an Optimus Prime ("Commander") without an arm. There has been a comic revival for the use and consumption of nostalgics, based on the "first generation" of transformable robots, and Transformers Legends it is the son of this philosophy, particularly respectful towards the original design of Ratchet ("Doc") rather than Wheeljack ("Lightning") or Soundwave ("Memor"). What we are facing is a free-to-play collectible card game, therefore downloadable for free from the App Store or Google Play, characterized by the presence of really fantastic artwork, which alone are worth the price of the ticket (free, we reiterate). The product structure is very simple and focuses equally on quality and quantity. Our "deck", in fact, consists of nine cards each representing an Autobot or a Decepticon, depending on the faction we have selected. The various characters are equipped with variable attack and defense characteristics, to be enhanced not only by collecting experience points and therefore the usual grinding, but also by using additional cards that we have received thanks to the "space bridge" or reconnaissance, which we can merge together to obtain a sometimes substantial upgrade of our robot.
Much more than what you see
The "management" mechanics of Transformers Legends they are extremely rich and the more enjoyable the more we are passionate about the classic series and its characters.
As already mentioned, the artwork made for the game is gorgeous and some of them boast a "3D-like" effect, with parts of the design moving on multiple levels of depth when we move the device, simulating a depth that doesn't really exist. The procedures for obtaining a more powerful deck (which said this may seem an equivocal thing) are varied and consist not only of the "fusion" described above, where we generally choose to sacrifice less powerful characters or in any case with lower growth prospects to improve the skills of "leaders", but also in similar operations involving weapons, or the so-called "trans-scan", which amplifies the power of the character if we have both the card that portrays him in vehicle mode and the card with which it appears in the humanoid form. The freemium dynamics are rather permissive and allow us to try our hand several times a day with missions or direct clashes with other users (naturally in asynchronous mode), to open various decks to get extra cards and then to continue to aim for the progressive enhancement of the " pink ", which can be further optimized according to the position of the cards on the table. The variety of situations is also promoted by special community events that you can participate in and which include, for example, confrontation with a specific group of Transformers. What is missing a Transformers Legends unfortunately it is a "decisive" phase that is up to the management one, in the sense that one could be inspired by the many Japanese card games to obtain a strategic combat system, of great value, rather than throwing everything on automatisms and mere numerical comparison .

If you are a fan of the Transformers, the real ones, you really can't help but download (for free!) Transformers Legends. The title developed by ngmoco represents a tribute of great value to the original series, full of many absolutely splendid artworks and an incredible consistency as regards the management phase of the experience, that is the collection of cards, the enhancement of the characters and the arrangement of the deck for the purpose of gaining a strategic advantage over the opponent. Even the sound, often a neglected element of mobile games, stands out for its quality and even incorporates the famous jingle with the two symbols (Autobot and Decepticon) alternating. In short, everything is almost perfect. "Almost" because much more could have been done on the front of the clashes, rather than opting for a banal automatic system.
