After 40 years from the release of his first feature film, the most famous thief in the world returns to the big screen in a completely new graphic party, in a combination of classic and modern. Finally one of the greatest characters in the history of comics and animation, created by none other than the late Monkey Punch, hit the cinemas again! We are naturally defending of Lupine, which arrives in 3D with its new feature film: Lupine III - The First.
The plot of this new production sees our favorite thief struggling with his grandfather's only bankruptcy work, Arsenio Lupine: the theft of the diary of the archaeologist Bresson. It is said that whoever unravels the mystery will have access to an immense treasure. Lupine the Third he will embark on this adventure to remove this disgrace from the name of the Lupine family. During his adventure he will come across the young archaeologist, Letitia and thanks to her he will try to solve the mystery linked to the dairio of Bresson. Unfortunately, we will find another researcher, the Dr. Lambert, who with a secret organization commanded by the supreme Geralt, will try to seize at all costs the treasure and what it hides. What will this diary really hide? What had Bresson discovered that was so special? The only way to find out is to follow Lupine on his amazing new adventure.
I'm a Super Hero
In terms of graphics, this new CG adaptation puts Lupine and his loved ones in a new and functional light, let's take a practical example: in Dragon quest: Your Story, the characters follow the classic style of Toryama but are at the same time ultra-rendered, this creates a not insignificant visual imbalance and makes everything very strange; in Lupine the First, on the other hand, 3D rendering is accompanied by a correct reinterpretation of the characters that makes the characters make a qualitative leap in their development in 3D, but at the same time are recognizable and appreciable from the transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional. The audio sector is the classic sector of Lupine's films and as usual the classic ost work very well, as in all previous productions.
Green VS Red
Takashi Yamazaki's direction winks a lot at old feature films, but above all at the very first, that is "The Castle of Cagliostro". Many references taken from old films return to touch personal chords in the hearts of old fans of the saga; the whole film gives the impression of having something new in front of you, but that at the same time it is a nostalgic thing, creating this continuous appreciation of the work ... even if most of the time you understand very well where the plot wants to go. The latter therefore remains simple, but still in line with the not too complex plots that have characterized the many feature films on the gentleman thief. Certainly, however, I can say that, given the last two works, perhaps we could have come up with something a little more interesting, but it is also understandable that this product has never been the goal, and therefore we are fully satisfied with " development classic of a classical work, in its classicism ".
Is all that glitters gold?
Lupine III - The First will be released in theaters on February 27, Published by Koch Media. Of course, this film has some small things on a logical level that does not make it crowned as the perfect film: for example, when the cars collide with each other, they will have dents, but they remain shiny, without the paint getting damaged; and in general when scenes of this type are presented, the “fiction” emerges a little. As for the narrative of the plot, even if functional it remains very basic for a title like Lupine, it is inevitable to show some regret for this.
Apart from these trifles, Lupine III: The First is definitely a work that we highly recommend to see both to those who love the world of animation (Japanese and not only), and - and above all - to those who grew up to the sound of the unmistakable and always inimitable musical catchphrase that marks the twists and turns of his crazy adventures.
