Following the release of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Project Red it went from being a software house to becoming something else, first one hope answered against something mammoth, then one certainty, given its past achievements, and later a real one inspirational model on how not to release a video game. The disappointment with their latest work, in fact, has not only reverberated everywhere on the web, but has led to a real wave of hatred, pain, remorse and, at least based on recent results, rancor. To a feeling that seems not to mention a slight decrease, or disappearance, all through developments that are also going well over the simple relationship with the consumer.
The consequences of a particular launch
The market launch of cyberpunk 2077 will surely remain in the history of video games as a warning on how relate to the consumer both from a commercial point of view and from a point of view advertising. The grueling wait of delays that accompanied the mystery of this title, in the end, did not fully satisfy theexpectation, perhaps even too high, inspired by contemporary media. Result? A publication designed by claims of the consumer, now tired, not yet completely finished, especially when it comes to precise peripherals of fruition. So CD Projekt Red had to respond in first person to all the accusations that the web and consumers - previously hopeful - have leveled against him.
This has led to a whole series of analysis, questions, reflections about those who worked on it (with also revelations on the working conditions that have seen the game rise and grow), scoop and above all refunds. The latter have marked a real limit in contemporary production, highlighting the importance of building a sincere relationship with your community. In this situation, in fact, it was not just a question of money and compensation, therefore of a purely material point of view, but of the importance towards confidence that is being built, also through the YouTube's ADS, but click on them,, with the individual. This has reached an extremely central weight with CD Projekt Red, especially when it comes to the contemporary videogame market, but also in general.
CD Projekt Red continuously grabbed from the outside
Based on what was recently revealed, staying on the subject, last night CD Projekt Red would have been robbed. The whole thing has been carried over Twitter from their official account, who officially revealed the details of this aggression, a hacker attack in the night and accompanied by instructions - rather theatrical and curiously self-celebrating - but still unclear, especially with regard to the emotional and personal dynamics that inspired all this and pushed towards it all.
The cyber attack in question appears to have been carried out by an unidentified user, and it seems that, among the stolen source codes there were also some linked to a version never published by The Witcher 3, probably the next-gen update announced for months now. In the CD Projekt Red Twitter post we can read both an official statement in which it is reported that:
Yesterday we discovered that we were the victims of a hacker attack, which compromised some of our internal systems. An unidentified person entered our network, collecting some data belonging to the capital group, and then leaving a note with a blackmail, which we show you in this tweet. Although some of our devices are encrypted, our backups are safe. We have already secured our IT infrastructure and are restoring the data.
We will not give in to blackmail and we will not negotiate with the perpetrator of the coup, aware that the data could be published. We are taking the necessary steps to prepare to mitigate the eventual release of what we have taken, by contacting companies that could suffer from it personally. We are still investigating the incident however at the moment we can confirm - with what we know - that none of the user data has been stolen. We have already contacted the relevant authorities and will cooperate with them in investigating the incident.
In the note above, however, also reported promptly on Twitter, one has arisen threat accompanied by questionable general punctuation. The fundamental question is: because? How come all this persistence against CD Projekt Red? Reflecting on it, this is not the first time in the history of video games in which a product does not reflect the expectations of the general public, perhaps even inspiring a strong personal disappointment. But why keep hitting these guys even after all the excuses and reimbursements and various justifications? Can hatred of something really push us that far?
Two elements remain interesting in this situation: the first is that subjective which pushed this person to such an action, therefore not at all simple in the realization. What will he want? What are the practical purposes of such an action? Based on the words of the note released, it would seem that the makers of the blow are not aiming only at a gain personal but also a discredit, in its entirety, the company, to "show how terrible" it is. So present to the world something internal that you know from within? The other interesting point lies in the choice by CD Projekt Red by publish openly all that. This undoubtedly remains an extremely risky move which, on the one hand, continues to to talk about themselves, also drawing a kind of image pseudo-victimization, and on the other it gives ahuge visibility the act itself and all the negative implications related to it. Why advertise your own so much weaknesses structural and social? Only time will give us answers regarding such a courageous, perhaps too bold, action.
