Needless to go around it so much, Hollywood has accustomed us well. Cinema is an ever-expanding world that with its multi-billion dollar capital has led to the proliferation of every imaginable genre. Whether you are looking for a drama, a comedy, some war film or a good animated film, nowadays you are spoiled for choice. From time to time, however, viewers just want to just turn off their brains by letting themselves go into a hell of explosions, bullets and jokes thrown at the right moment. This was Bad Boys, a work that in 1995 was able to bewitch us in a splendidly carefree epic which was then followed by the even more beloved Bad Boys II, two films that under the direction of the director Michael Bay they knew how to impress themselves strongly in the hearts of millions and millions of fans. 17 years have passed since then and today, after a wait that seemed endless in the eyes of many, we are finally ready for Bad Boys for Life, third chapter of the franchise which, however, will be characterized by a difference of considerable importance. For the occasion, in fact, the baton passed into the hands of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, an important step that could have brought with it far from secondary changes. We at Resources4Gaming have finally had the opportunity to view the feature film and now we are ready to give you our final judgment on it.
Bad Boys forever
It's been a good 17 years since the events seen in Bad Boys II and the capable detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are now quite advanced in age. The desire to continue living in the moment without thinking about the consequences is still strong, but the most famous couple of cops in Miami are starting to feel the weight of the years. On the one hand we have Mike who does not want to let go of his career, clinging to that youthful dream of glory between one arrest and another, while on the other hand we find a wiser and more aware Marcus who would like to hang up his badge to be able to enjoy a well-deserved retirement. The film thus aims to make us experience a sort of generational shift, the eternal braggart who for the first time have to look to the future while new recruits arrive on the scene to take their place, between latest generation technologies and more moderate assault tactics that do not go well with the methods that our heroes they have learned to exploit. Despite the years - and indeed, perhaps precisely because of that - the iconic Will Smith / Martin Lawrence duo works with masterful strength and helps to remind us of the good old days, between gags, jokes and insults that all come at the right time making you escape sound and tasty laughs, but do not think that the strength of production is represented by mere nostalgia; in fact, despite the memories of previous films you will flow in front of every shot, the film has been able to demonstrate that it possesses charisma and manages to shine with its own light.
Conversely, we cannot hide that the absence of Machael Bay is felt on more than one occasion and the lack of those explosive scenes that in their madness had kidnapped us with the two previous films appears as a real shame. Do not worry, however, as the film will not fail to exalt us between shootings, chases and fistfights worthy of the best Hollywood blockbuster, a great result that can count on a camera work that lives up to expectations, with careful shots that despite the general confusion always manage to make it clear what is happening before our eyes. The watchword in every scene is "balance," regardless of whether we are talking about humorous moments, dramatic phases or adrenaline-pumping situations, and once we reached the end credits we could not help but define ourselves fully satisfied. From a more distinctly actor's point of view, the work done by the cast appears to be of a very high standard. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence obviously represent the backbones of the whole experience, perfectly placed in their respective parts and always able to conquer the scene, but not least were all the others - between old acquaintances and newcomers -, a long series of credible and well-blended characters. Finally, to close it all, there is an audio sector that does not betray expectations, thanks to a soundtrack whose tracks always explode at the right time accompanied by a dubbing in other languages which, as usual in the cinema world, has been able to reveal itself to be first 'order.
