For more than 50 years, going to the moon has no longer been considered a taboo. After the Apollo 11 space mission, many people began to dream more and more concretely of being able to walk on the lunar soil. But what would happen if man really managed to get to Mars too? Away he tells us. It tells the story of a group of astronauts selected for the first mission to the red planet. Moments of joy, terror, euphoria and despair alternate in this brand new Netflix Original. The adventures of the astronauts, especially the commander Emma Green (played beautifully by the Oscar winner Hilary Swank) are alternated with the stories of those - relatives and non-relatives - who have remained on earth, worried and frightened for the lives of their loved ones. The experiences on the spacecraft (from malfunctions to relational problems) are told in a way impeccable and realistic. Thanks to this, the viewer will be able to totally immerse himself in the show and let himself be projected among the stars together with the protagonists. Ten episodes lasting about fifty minutes make Away smooth, engaging and not at all heavy.
Away is a perfect title for those who dream of flying, but love to keep their feet on the ground.
Between dream and reality
The lives of the five participants in the Atlas space mission are told gradually and in depth. Each of them - based on the events of each episode - will have a moment dedicated to their character, in which an important part of their life will be told. The entire title revolves around Emma Green's life. The woman will be selected to be in command of the entire mission. Several times her authority will be questioned by the other crew members, but her determination and her strong character will make her able to overcome any conflict in the best way. As a result, Matt's story (played by Josh charles) and Alexis (Talitha Bateman), Emma's husband and teenage daughter. As wonderful as it is to see the person you love most in the world finally crown your dream, knowing it millions of kilometers away reveals itself. not a walk at all.
Although much of the plot is centered around these three characters, as previously mentioned, each of the protagonists will have their moment of "glory". To accompany Commander Green there is first of all Deputy Commander Ram (Ray Panthaki). The man, Indian and ship's doctor, will be tested several times by fate that will lead him to face increasingly complex situations face to face with his past. The ship's technical department will be managed by the Russian engineer Misha (Mark Ivanir). Despite being the oldest and most experienced member of the crew, even his physical conditions will slowly fail, making the adventure more and more difficult. Lu (Vivian Wu), a Chinese woman forced by the strict rules of her country, will be the chemistry of the mission. Unlike the others, her physical condition will remain impeccable but, due to her homeland, she will be forced to face problems of a completely different kind. Last but not least is Kwesi (Ato Essandoh), a Jewish boy from Ghana, on his first space mission. Struggling with all the traumas caused by the first trip out of the atmosphere, his faith will help him overcome any problems and make his beloved plants survive to the red planet.
Yet another center by Netflix
Despite often Netflix has been criticized for the contents of his titles, this time - like many others - he really hit the mark. Away it's a beautiful story, told to perfection. Each character is wonderfully characterized and, as mentioned earlier, each has its own space and story. Certainly some stories could provide us with some more details, but we hope that in some way everything can be deepened. In fact, as specified several times in the series, the space mission should have lasted approximately three years. At the end of the tenth episode we are alone at one third of the expected time. We therefore hope to soon have news about a possible second season.
In conclusion we can say that we are talking about a title pleasant and interesting. Despite being a title sci-fi it is totally realistic, a positive note that guarantees the public an almost complete immersion. Excellent work of the director and the writers. Although there have been many titles set in space over time, this one definitely deserves an elite place. Perfect for spending a few evenings alone or in company, while gazing at the stars.
