Gravity Rush 2 marks the return of one of the best games ever released on PlayStation Vita. This sequel arrives after five years since the release of this title on the portable console of Sony. Although recently we have been able to enjoy one remastered version di Gravity Rush su PlayStation 4, this will be the first time that we will see the title in question entirely developed for the latter. This time in fact, the Team Gravity opted to leave the now obsolete portable console behind, preferring an exclusive release on PlayStation 4 for the second and last chapter of this short and innovative saga.Where were we?
This sequel takes up the events narrated in the short Gravity Rush: The Animation - Overture recently released to link the two episodes. Kat and Syd shipwrecked following a gravitational storm, they will find themselves separated from Raven and Dusty, Banga village forced to live for the day as gem miners. Fortunately for us, after experiencing how difficult life without powers can be, our favorite shifter will find her inseparable animal shoulder, and with it her powers at last. Following our discovery, we could finally resume roaming freely in a map at least twice the size of Hekseville. In fact, we will find ourselves in the picturesque archipelago of Jirga Pala Laho, where we will immediately notice that the various islands that will make up the archipelago will be clearly divided by social classes. In the lower level we will find the houseboats of She Elgona where the outcasts live relegated and ruled with an iron fist by the Militia. While in the more highly placed islands of She Havina e She Colmosna we will find the bourgeoisie and the merchants who populate this rich world ruled by the Council. Political plots and subplots present in these new settings will serve to impolute the plot, but above all how means of denunciation for a social inequality also present in our world. In the role of our heroine, we will give voice to these injustices by putting the interests of others before our own. Saving this new world will keep us busy for twenty-five main chapters composed of various episodes ed countless side missions which will keep us busy for the course of the game. With great powers comes great responsibilities
During this adventure we will discover various aspects of the shifter's mysterious past, and together with them, new powers. First we will have one available great breadth of missions and challenges that will help us to characterize our character with new enhancements. We will have available a growth system based on the collection of crystals that will allow us to enhance our skills and attacks. We could also unlock them as various rewards Talismans that combined in the best way will grant us always different bonuses with countless possible combinations between them. All this will allow us to customize the character to the best according to our style of play. Speaking of these new powers instead, we will discover in the course of the game that our protagonist can govern other types of gravity beyond what we were used to until now. We will see introduced in particular: the "Moon Gravity" which will make us faster in moving, but less powerful in attacking; and the "Jovian Gravity" which on the contrary will make us slower, but also more powerful in striking. Each of the various gravities will have a set of special moves and combat mechanics completely different from each other, allowing us to choose how to deal with the various enemies that will stand in front of us.
While staying on a path that does not differ too much from the original chapter, the new introductions will not be lacking for sure. In addition to those previously mentioned, we will see one introduced photographic mode that in addition to being a new omnipresent means of entertainment in current generation games, we will see it have a specific use and purpose in the course of the game. A useful implication will in fact be that of immortalizing the position of the treasures present in the "Treasure hunts" so as to help other users to reach them in turn through the photos taken by us. Thanks to this interactive function we could get Dusty doubloons with which to unlock extra contents such as: photo filters, bonus costumes and new poses for Kat. In short, compared to its predecessor who lacked content, in this new chapter we will be literally submerged, guaranteeing the game a not insignificant replay factor once the main storyline is finished. To conclude
Gravity Rush 2 is exactly what we would have expected from a sequel to Gravity Rush. Everything that remained to be improved has been improved with changes that have not in any way disturbed the style of play we had been accustomed to. The result is a game that innovates but does not completely change what was the original concept behind the title. The new game environments are larger and more explorable than the previous ones (which are still integrated), leaving room for a fascinating world in which to immerse yourself. This structure lets it shine through some neglect in level design which, however, is perfectly masked by the excellent cel shading work that has always distinguished the series. One unique and inspired art style in the colors and animations that perfectly recreate that atmosphere capable of kidnapping us in one pure fun session that leaves no room for those little whims due to occasional frame rate drops. Despite these small flaws, the title finally presents itself as very valid as regards what it aims to offer, ultimately resulting in a small masterpiece that does everything perfectly justice.
A new and unprecedented story told through the beautiful illustrations of Shunsuke saito accompanied by the inevitable soundtrack by Kohei Tanaka. All under the supervision of Keiichiro Toyama which returns to pay homage to the saga for one last time Gravity Rush on the occasion of the release of this final chapter. A journey that comes to its conclusion but that we are sure will leave its mark in the hearts of all the fans who have become passionate during this short and iconic adventure to the heroine Kat and that we are sure will fully appreciate the work done behind this title.
Modus Operandi: the review you just read was written based on the version PlayStation 4 of the title, after completing the entire game.
