Chromecast not working? How to solve the most common problems
1. Restart your Chromecast
As is often the case with a multitude of products, rebooting sometimes solves the problem. To restart Chromecast, unplug it directly, wait a couple of minutes and plug it back in. As soon as the device restarts, check that the problem is resolved. If not, you can continue testing the following steps.
2. Chromecast won't connect? Check the Wi-Fi connection
Technological devices that depend on the Wi-Fi connection may stop working if the connection is not good or adequate. If Chromecast doesn't work, don't hesitate to turn the router off and on again to reset the connections.
If the Chromecast doesn't connect, also check the distance of the router from the Chromecast, because if it is too far away it is likely that the connection is not very clean. It is always advisable to place the modem in the center of the house, so that it reaches all devices and rooms.
You can also try plugging in the HDMI extender included in the Chromecast box and physically separate it from the TV to see if it improves.
3. Restart your computer or phone
Also, do not rule out the possibility of restarting the computer or smartphone associated with the Chromecast. As mentioned earlier, restarting paired devices can also be a good recipe for getting the Chromecast to work again.
4. Check if your Chrome browser has been updated
As you know, Chromecast and Chrome are intimately related, and if you have an older version of the browser, cast buttons may not appear on many web applications.
To update Chrome to the latest version you need to open the browser, access the icon with the three dots at the top right of the interface, then click on “Help”, then on “About Google Chrome”. From there you can update it if the latest version is missing.
5. Let's take a look at the power supply if Chromecast isn't working
If your TV is not of good quality, the problem is probably related to the way Chromecast feeds work. In this case, try not to connect the Chromecast's power supply directly to the TV's USB port.
6. Maybe the problem isn't Chromecast
You have to try the Chromecast on another TV. If you connect it to another TV and see that it works perfectly, the problem is likely to be with your other TV which may be a little (very) old, have low quality connection ports, or an incompatibility issue.
7. How to reset Chromecast
This is the last step to take if the problem has not yet been solved. To perform a factory data reset, you need to hold the button on the top of the Chromecast for at least 25 seconds. At that moment the TV screen turns off and the device will restart. Keep in mind that while you won't lose any data, you will need to reconfigure your Chromecast from scratch.
