Despite the brand of Call of Duty can find its notoriety within the multiplayer modes, some games have managed to be particularly brilliant even in their narrative sector, offering users a handful of adrenaline and fun hours, but at the same time full of exciting moments. Among these can only stand out the beloved campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a controversial adventure against the Russian armies that has been able to make people talk about itself for many reasons. The frightening uproar created by the extremely talented in-house team of Activision, Infinity Ward, left a clear mark on the 2009 gaming market that the publisher decided to bring back to the current generation thanks to its Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.
We are talking about a game that has not been fundamentally announced, despite the many leaks concerning mainly the very latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that have seen it in development. Thus making an entrance with a bang, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered landed on the virtual shelves of PlayStation 4 at the price of € 24,99, promising aone month time exclusivity given that on April 30 the game will also arrive on PC and Xbox One. The game presents, at least for the moment, only the campaign mode, given that the developer wanted to avoid dividing the user with respect to his further main work to the assets. Over the last few days we have been able to analyze the PS4 version of the game, let's see together how it behaved in the next few lines.
The return of the war
Few premises, after a short tutorial Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered immediately focuses on projecting the player into the terrible war that is treated from chapter to chapter. This is a full-blown remastered, which therefore does not see the narrative touched by an inch, fortunately. A new manhunt against Vladimir Makarov and an urgent need to defend the territory of the United States from Russia, here are the two cornerstones of this adventure.
It is a campaign that also in 2020 it manages to shine in its raw and violent themes, being cleverly narrated via audio during the uploads and shown above all in the midst of the action and the bloody scenes, of which we will always and in any case be the protagonists. The only security that did not particularly worry the users was fortunately not betrayed by Activision, the game is extremely enjoyable in its narrative even over 10 years later, thanks to its extremely controversial "No Russian" mission as well as to further exciting chapters that the experience offers at a budget price, along with well-characterized characters who will soon be loved. However, the entrance fee could be defined by many as rather exaggerated for the hours offered to the user, but it is good to consider that these are extremely compressed and go straight to the point, since quality was put first in this production, there is no online mode useful for making users grind in-game hours.
Leap of technique
Having mentioned the doubts about this production, it is difficult not to mention the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered campaign, contained in 2016 in an edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and then sold separately. We can say that fortunately we are currently on a level that is not even comparable, the new work is absolutely not related to the latest Raven Software remastered, since it was rather painstaking and well optimized in every area. If not for a rather demanding download weight, there is no negative criticism of the technical side of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. The graphics displayed on the PlayStation 4 are sensational, just short of the magnificent animations of the characters and the various special effects, with all being accompanied by 60 marble frames, which are more than rare on consoles and manage to make the shooter wonderfully fluid and adrenaline-pumping. A possible comparison is more than satisfactory even with current productions, and brings the work very well to our times, at least as regards the technical side. However, the gameplay unfortunately fails to show itself in completely great shape.
The sector created in 2009 was certainly at the forefront for the time, but the further chapters of the brand set new evolutionary steps that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered was forced to ignore completely, thus becoming obsolete under various playful factors. The artificial intelligence is still satisfactory, but the poor checkpoint management often makes the work very frustrating, also given the possibility of falling into battle within a few milliseconds for the level of realism brought to the field. However, we emphasize that the countryside is enjoyed in one breath, leaving no room for distractions for the player and creating an out-of-the-ordinary adrenaline. From the most common moments of shooting to the great ones that are still rather dazzling, while making one feel a few years of old age, the chapter manages to be fully enjoyable and fun.
