When you first arrive on the deserted island of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there will be areas that you simply cannot access. You will need various objects, including a ladder, to explore everything.
The higher levels of the island are full of trees, fruits, rarer flowers and many herbs, but unfortunately these are all things out of reach, at least in the beginning. The game, within the first two hours, will provide you with the object you need to cross rivers, but the ladder will make you suffer slightly more. For this reason, we have created this handy guide that will help you.
The ladder is an object you can create, but in Animal Crossing: New Horizons it doesn't quite work that way. You'll need to unlock the recipe from Tom Nook first, and here's how.
How to get the ladder
Like everything in Animal Crossing: New Horizon, you'll need to grow your island to get better items. The best would be to wait patiently for the natural population increase, but there is an alternative method: use 2000 at the Nook ATM to buy a ticket and fly to a random island. This small excursion is usually used for gathering resources, but you can also meet other animals and convince them to return to live on your island.
When there is a line of people waiting to come and live on the island, businessman Tom Nook inevitably sniffs the opportunity, but for these people you will inevitably need homes. At this point he will offer you a recipe for the bridge building kit: use 4 log posts, which are made of wood, as well as clay and stone. The bridge construction kit allows you to cross the river without difficulty. Once this is done you will be prompted to create three more new living areas once back from Nook. The latter will ask you to build some basic furniture for each of the new houses, for a total of six objects each. Some of the items you will have to craft require materials that you do not yet have and which are available on the upper floors of the island.
Tom Nook will understand this problem and will call you, giving you instructions for creating the ladder directly on the phone. Manufacturing requires only four softwoods and four hardwoods - easy. Now you can climb the ledges!
