Smartphones are more than just a device for our multi-tasking needs. Most of the recent flagships are equipped with a professional-grade camera. The Samsung Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus also come with great hardware and software for capturing stunning photos.
But as we all know, it's not just the hardware specs that make a great photo. Camera settings also need to be optimized so that you can get the most out of the camera app. Find below a list of the best Samsung Galaxy S21 camera settings and tricks to take pictures like a pro.
1. Save images in efficient formats
Without a doubt, the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 + are equipped with a large internal memory. And therefore, it makes sense to use this storage space efficiently and intelligently. If you want to save space, it makes sense to save photos in High-Efficiency Image File (HEIF) formats and videos in HEVC format. These file formats allow the phone to capture photos and videos while taking up less space in the internal memory than conventional JPG photos.
- To make this change, go to Settings, select Format and Advanced Options from the menu and turn on the switch for HEIF images.
- Similarly, go to video mode and select Advanced Recording Options. Once inside, flip the switch next to High Efficiency Video, and that's it.
After that, the phone will save the photos and videos in more compressed formats without losing quality and without compromising their clarity and details.
2. Usa Single Take
Single Take is one of the coolest features of Samsung Galaxy smartphones and is golden for people like me who love to take pictures. The best thing about the Galaxy S21's Single Take function is that you can fine-tune the recording time.
For example, if you want the registration mode to be completed in 5 seconds, it is totally doable. To do this, tap the timer icon in the bottom right corner. Then, drag the slider to the right.
Note that you can record up to 15 seconds. Now, all you have to do is tap the shutter button and you will see the magic come to life.
At the same time, you can also choose the modes you want to activate when capturing single shots. For example, if you don't want filtered videos, you can keep them disabled.
This way, the phone memory will remain free from unnecessary videos.
3. Enable HDR10 + recording
The Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 + also include HDR10 + support, which is great for capturing photos and playing videos.
To enable HDR10 + on the camera, switch to video mode, then tap Resolution. Here, make sure it's set to FHD. Then, tap Settings> Advanced Recording Options and turn on the switch next to HDR10 + videos.
For the uninitiated, HDR10 + allows the camera to capture a greater range of colors, thus making your videos more dynamic.
4. Activate 108MP mode
Again, if you have the Galaxy S21 Ultra like me, you can take 108MP photos too. By default, all phone photos are grouped in pixels, but dedicated 108MP mode can be enabled.
- Go to the camera app, tap the Ratio icon at the top and tap 3: 4 108MP. Simple, right?
After that, the phone will take all the photos in high resolution. Note to reverse this setting when capturing normal daily photos as 108MP photos are huge in size, otherwise you will see your phone memory fill up in no time!
5. Create funny GIFs
Another fun thing about the Galaxy S21 camera is that you can create funny GIFs right from your camera. Great, isn't it?
When you see a fun situation unfolding, pick up your phone and swipe down on the Shutter button, and that's it. The phone will immediately start taking pictures to create a GIF. However, make sure the Scroll Down feature is set to GIF in the settings.
6. Use Director's View
By now, you must already know that the Samsung Galaxy S21 camera comes with many video shooting modes and Director's View is one of them.
This mode gives you more control over the videos you shoot by allowing you to record a video with the rear and front cameras working at the same time. Woah, right? This mode is useful, especially when you want to record both sides of the camera.
To activate it, select More from the ribbon at the bottom and select Director's View. All you have to do is start shooting.
7. Capture moving objects with ease
Have you ever tried to click photos of babies and toddlers? If you haven't, let me tell you it's not an easy job, as I'm always on the go. Thankfully, the Galaxy S21 series cameras come with a switch to make this job easier.
Go to Settings and scroll down until you see Detection Auto Focus. From now on, your smartphone camera will keep the subject in focus no matter how much they move.

8. Change the skin tone
Do you prefer warm color tones on your selfies? If so, the Galaxy S21 has a hidden trick for you. It lets you choose between two shades of color - Warm and Natural so you don't have to waste time on a photo editing app like Snapseed to change the color temperature.
Change the camera mode to selfie mode, then go to Settings. Once inside, scroll down until you see the option for the Selfie color tone. Tap it to choose your preferred option.

9. Take beautiful vertical panoramas
The Galaxy S21 camera is very smart. In addition to normal panoramas, it also allows you to take vertical panoramas. Thankfully, you don't need to make any special changes to the settings.
All you have to do is select the panorama mode and then move the camera vertically. The phone is smart enough to determine which direction the camera is moving, and based on that, it will start capturing.
